I have just got back from agood test drive ina Sorento KX3 auto. The engine is a real stormer, it is quiet, smooth and puks seamlessly. Hard to believe that 2.2l can put out that amount of power. It's afar better ride smooths out potholes and feels more planted going around bends. Although it is aimed at a different market segment compared to the outgoing model I cant help but believe that it's going to be a fine towcar.

I await the first PC test with a van in tow.

Discounts are already being discussed!

Cheers

We went and had a look at the new sorento today, I thought it was very smart. But i do think it's over priced against the top of the range Hyundia.Sorento only comes in a 7 seater so you dont get a choice of a 5 seater. Dont know why they dont do a manual in the top of the range one.

I agree with you about the 7 seats. The base model has 5 seats but I suspect that the KX2 will be the best seller, but again only 7 seats. Not everyone wanst to cart that excess weight about. But isn't the engine great?

The new 2.2 diesel in the new Kia and the 2010 facelift Santa Fe is an all new power plant and not the same as the 2.2 in the previous Santa Fe model ,which is a 155 bhp engine not 198 bhp.

The new 2.2 Sorrento is 197 Bhp 422Nm torque and is not the same engine as the sante Fe , the 57 Sante Fe was 148 BHP

Power figures are usually quoted in PS (German horsepower) so the BHP figure is always slightly less.

Since ALL vehicles sold in Europe are required to use ISO units, (KW for power) for documentation, why does the motor persist in using an outdated German domestic unit?

Hello Roger,

I suspect its the same reason that we still buy beer in Pints, and that some shops still show weights in Kg and Lbs and road distances in Miles etc. In other words inertia and tradition.

Some people still have difficulties in getting their minds around the SI units, and will still want to convert back to what was for them a perfectly workable system, and units for which they had a gut feeling.

I like:-

the 7 year warranty

Powerful and torquey engine

reasonable stated fuel consumption.

I don't like :-

the reduced weight.

Will it tow 1700kgs as well as the original?

Don't want 7 seats

the price

I'll stick to my faithful 2005 Sorie.

Cheers

John - but we never used PS before we joined Europe, we used BHP - so why do we now use an old internal German standard.

I can understand if we change from BHP to KW, but not to PS, it's not even an ISO unit.
