Nissan Pathfinder

Just purchased a 2.5 td Pathfinder and was wondering what peoples thoughts are. I will be towing a twin axle Compass Mendip 630L with three children Two Springer Spaniel dogs and all the bits and pieces to go with it. Any advice or info will be appreciated. Regards Richard Evans

i am interested as the Pathfinder is on my list for my next car and certainly ticks all the boxes.

it will be a car ownership scheme purchase so must be new and so my budget will not run to any of the LRs.

My daughters best friend runs a local stables and riding school and bought one of the first 2005 Pathfinders.

It has done over 50000 trouble free miles unlike her previous tow tug and has coped well in deep mud and ruts at events towing mainly a large double horse box. It seats 7 excited horse women and girls that cover the sounds from not the quietest of engines and the ride is a bit harsh. It has even dragged a container across a muddy field with little effort.

It's a heavy beast and a bit on the slow side but has been 100% reliable but it can struggle at times with a big trailer and full load on motorways vut gives reasonable MPG. Annie was going to change it but is hanging on as a new V6 Diesel is rumoured to be on the way.

Is this not a cotradiction in terms ? " It will pull a container across a muddy field " " Yet it will struggle with a big trailer on a motorway "

Plodding slowly in a field is one thing , but maintaining steady motorway speeds towing is another issue. Its a heavy car with not the most powerful engine and lacks overtaking response.

Just looked up some road tests on line and they say its a bit slow compared to a Disco. So seems she is right 🙂

I've not driven one, but some people I know who have Disco 3 reckon it was a bargain basement D3, lots of equipment, not much refinement, but how much car do you want for the money? If you have the car tow your caravan and see what you think, you don't need speed, I would have thought it made a good tug for the money.

I have towed a twin-axle fully loaded swift caravan approx 7,000 miles with my Pathfinder and have found that all round performance is much better than my previous Range Rovers and Disco's. The Disco3 has more power but that is wasted in the weight of the vehicle (my decision not to buy one).
