Nissan Pathfinder

I am looking at a Nissan Pathfinder. Does anyone have one, and is it a good tow care. I have a Baily Senator Carolina (MTPL 1830kg).Also how is it day to day driving in and around town.

Paul...I don't have personal experience of the Nissan (I tow with a BMW X5) but a close friend got a new Pathfinder about 3 months ago. He has no real complaints (it is still quite new though) but he did say he does'nt think it is as good as his last tow car - a Mitsubishi Showgun.

He said the Pathfinder is noisier and not as echonomical when towing because it revs much higher than the shogun, most probably because it is a 2.5ltr Diesel against the 3.2d Shogun.

hope this helps....mal

The Nissan's 2.5 diesel engine is actually more powerful than the Shogun's 3.2 diesel engine.

My friend has one and he happily tows a twin axle, has very good supressed engine noise, and he gets a good fuel return too both towing and around town.

He tested a Shogun too.

Cheap too got lots of kit on it and a good discount

We tow with a Nissan Navara Sport 2.5 TDI. it is the same engine as the Pathfinder. We have no problems at all. I don't find it noisy or like a comercial vehicle. We tow our Twin axle and it dos,net even think about it. W looked at the pathfinder but did'nt buy as we would have to take the dogs in the car. With a pickup you can take more!!!

Hi, my neighbour has the 4.0litre v6 petrol version on a 55 plate, by all acounts its an excellent vehicle, however solo he only gets about 17 mpg, hate to think what it would do towing!

Regards Paul

Beemermal says the website shows that the Pathfinder is not available with a petrol engine,Paul. Are you talking about Pathfinder or a Navaro?

Its definitely a pathfinder, top of the range model, full of electric gizmos including a camera for reversing, they may have dropped it from their lineup ?

Regards Paul.

I went on the web site again and Nissan only show the 2.5d option in the Pathfinder. Maybe they have dropped the petrol version?

I have just investigated the petrol version on line, it appears to have been dropped this year due to the non compliance of euro 5 emmissions. So if you want a petrol version it needs to be a second hand model.

Regards Paul.

I tow with a 4.2lt long wheelbase diesel nissan patrol. yes i know they are old, but i dont even know that i am towing my "Vanroyce" on occasions. As to economy the engine revs at 2900 rpm @ 70 mph, i usually get around 25 to 27 wheather i am towing or not. For sheer reliability i would go for the nissan.
