nissan terrano 2.7or 3.0 ??

any advice much appreciated. is there any difference in performance,mpg,problems etc as not sure which to go for.we tow an ace prestige 35 with a miro of 1194kg.we are looking at 3 to 4 year old terranos with below 40`000 miles on the clock

Yep, the 3litre with a newer direct injection engine is more powerful, faster and more economical. The rest is the same.

I seriously considered buying one last year but chose a Shogun.

I,ve owned and towed a 2.5 tonne trailer with both a 2.7 swb and a 3.0 auto lwb for my work.

Both got to 100,000 miles with no major faults and no breakdowns.

Items that needed replacing were the front anti-roll bar drop links at 90k and exhaust back boxes ,apart from that nothing, just routine servicing.

The 3.0 being auto and lwb was about 2mpg worse at 23mpg when towing and hardly any quicker.

Also had a 03 Navara , similar economy and power but poor rear leg room

Lastly a 3.2 swb auto Shogun, which was the only vehicle that let me down {only once in 50k though}.

With the Shogun because of the monocoque design you get more noise through the towbar as apposed to the older 4x4 with the body mounted on rubber and a separate chassis.

The Shogun engine noise in the cabin is unacceptably noisy in my opinion.

Terrano in either guise is brilliant value for money and wins for me hands down. Lack of cruise control was my only gripe.

I've owned several 2.7 and found them to be OK.

Friends of mine have bought the 3.0 and it is a much more capable unit, tighter, quiter, more economical but they are dearer to buy.

Go with the 3.0, much better for towing.

Sorry for the delay in replying to your comment.

I chose the Shogun because of the following reasons:

We wanted a car capable of seating 7, the Shogun is wider and the rear seats are more comfortable than the Terrano's.

The Shogun is a much newer design with independent suspension and a better ride.

The Shogun's are allegedly more reliable than the Terrano.

The Shogun holds it value better. ( traders tell me terrano's are harder to sell?).

Used Shogun's are dearer than Terranos but remember that they cost in excess of

thanks jay thats really helped the wife wants a hyundai santa fe but im not convinced i prefer the terrano
