Just bought a Nissan Pathfinder and had a twin electrics Whitter towbar fitted. Checked it out this afternoon and whilst all the lights work there is no beeping sound when I put the indicators on, all my other towcars did this. Does anyone know if this is normal?

I think you just need some type of warning.

I have no light or sound on my car,but if i have a caravan bulb fail the indicators flash more quickly.

A lot of modern cars have bulb failure warning built in to the electronics system - towbar electrics should accomodate this within their own circuitry to prevent spurious warnings.

Check with the installer - the Nissan's bulb failure alert my include the trailer also.

Another possibility is that there is a provision for the extra trailer indicator light but there is no bulb fitted.

I had this happen with a Vectra - the tight s--- at GM left the dash bulb out during production to save money!

I was under the impression that there shouls be an audible noise on the 4 towcars I have used in the past 17 years all have "beeped", I assume to let you know all is working connection wise

According to autotrader's website a dashboard display or warning bleeper must be fitted inside the tow vehicle to show that the trailer's lights are working.

Apparently you dont need something to tell your indicators are working as long as you have something to tell you the are not.

Got to the bottom of it. There is no sound but there is a light on the dash that flashes and has an indicator symbol and a 1 next to it. I missed it because I was standing outside the car checking the lights worked on the van - feel a bit of an idiot for raising it now. I did have to tweak the pot on the relay unit though as the fridge relay chattered away when ignition was turned off. It must have been set at too high a voltage.
