No Charge from Car to Caravan

Greetings Techies,

My son in Law has a problem charging the battery when hooked from car to the caravan.

It came to light when they were away for the weekend without EHU.

He connected the car ( big bu@@er off Disco) to the caravan and started up.

Although the panel showed lots of lecky going into the van, there was virtually nothing being put into the battery.

When an identical scenario was performed on the next door neighbours caravan with the same vehicle, the amps flooded into their caravan.

It doesn't seem to matter whether the switch in the control unit is on Caravan, Car or in the middle.

Something is getting to the battery but not a lot.

Has anybody out there got any ideas.

PS. We know its not the battery because that took a charge from another means that same weekend.

......you should have a bank of 12-volt fuses usually mounted near where the supply cable from the car enters the caravan.

These will be for road lights etc.

One will be marked Battery Charge.... check this first if the feed from the car is OK.

Del, from what you say it's not the car at fault as it works fine on another caravan, I would check the S plug and make sure the pins are clean and also gently spread the pins so they make better contact and whilst at it check the connections at the rear of the plug for corrosion and over-heating.
