Breakthrough. I was having intermittent problems with switching between "car" and "van" battery and switching the "water pump" on. Finally decided to remove the panel and check it out which resulted in me finding that the small PCB switches were playing up. Ordered new ones from RS which cost me £0.99(in total) (no postage) replaced them and away we go. Stands to reason, years of switching will cause the contacts to pack up, even though I could still hear the positive action click when the button was pressed.

My next job will be to change all the relays on the NE190 unit as over time their contacts will also start to play up! http://www.qis-uk.co.uk/Pics/Fuse-Box.JPG

This was really helpful. Thanks. Using the door key I bridged the switch contacts on the backside of the unit in the van and the leisure battery kicked in. From the front panel, pressing the battery button had just displayed 0.1. So a new switch seems likely to be the solution. What part did you order from RS?

Also, how did you get the NE190 out - are there screws behind the grey front edge part. How do you get that grey front edge part off!

The part I used was Schurter 1301.9306 and it's available from Farnell though I got it from digikey in US as part of a bigger order.

I replaced all five switches - they all seemed to have a high 'closed' resistance. The unit now works perfectly.

I discovered the front grey decorative bezel just pops off with some gentle manipulation. There are then screws either side of the NE190 attaching it to the caravan.

Hope that helps. De-soldering the switches benefits from braid, a solder sucker and patience. There are four pins in a square formation, so difficult to 'lever' off.

I just wish and hope that I will one day understand what this thread was all about. .

One of you posters able to give me a "Janet and John" version?

It really would be interesting for me.

Ta all.

Anseo. The NE189 unit shown here www.qis-uk.co.uk/Pics/Elec_Control_Pnl.jpg
is a control panel that has 4 PCB switches. One to start the pump, the middle one to switch to Van battery and the RHS one to use Car battery when travelling. The 4th one upper RHS if pressed shows battery voltage. You can see the 4 spots where I have removed the switches on the PCB then replaced with new switches. http://www.qis-uk.co.uk/Pics/NE189_Board.JPG
They are clear 3 sets of 4 holes in a square shape along the bottom and the voltage switch upper RHS corner. These little PCB switches are the only moving part on the unit and being switches over time the contacts will wear out. As I said in my OP I started having all manner of spurious faults so opened the unit removed the worn switches and replaced them with new ones. Problem solved it all works as good as new now.

Well done, any switching device on a printed circuit board won't be very robust. These devices usually switch a relay not mounted on the printed circuit board.

Most likely a pointless question, but does anyone have a circuit diagram for the NE190, or am I going to have to do it the hard way?

Well done Grey,
Clearly you have a very good electronics ability and have salvaged your own unit very well. :cheer:
Sadly not everyone on here understands solid state electronics nor how to solder a pcb without damaging it.
For the less capable of us I suggest you use these guys who are brilliant and have ironed out the numerous component defects endemic in the Pi## poor Nordelectronica units,. Even one of our Mods has first hand experience  :)

Craig,
The real problem was the OEM was a fundamentally poor piece of kit using sub standard design and very poor standard components. Imo, replacing the duff components is only a temporary fix, not long lasting. Ask yourself why the duff models are redundant B)
Apuljack basically create a new unit with design and different component changes

Thank you for your effort Craig, but no, I already have that one. It was the actual circuit diagram for the NE190 control panel I was after. Guess I will just have to trace out the cct the hard way.!! :( Once again, many thanks.

Bought some replacement switches (thank you JonC), and replaced all the switches. Unit works perfectly now. On dismantling the old switches, it looks like the contact plating has worn through to the base metal, which had corroded, hence the poor continuity.

Good news Terry.
Let’s hope the repair outlives the rest of the components. You may be lucky. Fingers crossed. :)
