If you are over the limit you should go through the Red channel and declare the excess. They ask what you have and how much. Duty is levied on alcohol content so not easily calculated by a layman. Here’s the Government information.

If its duty free and you bring back an amount over the limit you will be charged duty on the WHOLE quantity, not just on what's over the allowance.

what I take stuff back to canada eventhey don't do that why take your duty free away ?
I suppose that it’s because there has been an attempt to avoid duty by not declaring. Just taking payment for the duty avoided is hardly a deterrent. How Canada deals with it isn’t that relevant.
