I think if you want or need a 4x4 you should join Greenpeace or whatever organisation is currently against you, and make your voice heard. Once again it's not what you drive it's how much you drive it that adds to pollution. So in a sense Gordon is correct to raise the duty on fuel so everyone pays.

4x4 owners could go down to Plymouth or Poole Harbours and start pointing out the big cruisers that dash about at 40 knots on the weekends, and say look that's worse than any car, because they ain't going anywere.

Does Roger NEED to be part of this forum ?

It's his choice after all !

At present we have two 4 x 4's at home and two on order. One TD3 Disco here on hire that my wife is using and I have the use of my daughters new Toyota if I need to pop out. When we get to Dubai in a few days I don't own a car as I have the use of my friends Cayenne whenever I want.

PERSONAL CHOICE.

Tough , learn to live with it.

Euro wrote "Does Roger NEED to be part of this forum ?" it has nothing to do with you who is a member of this forum.

It's a matter of choice and opinions. They don't agree with yours so chuck them out ???. That's the sentiment that 4x4 bashers use.

As far as I'm concerned RogerL is a welcome member of this forum Frank.

Surely though he is questioning others "NEEDS", we all must have lots of things in our lives that we don't need.

Like me you must have survived for years with out a Mobile Phone, PC and a Video Player etc. So do you NEED them now?

Euro How about this as a explanation

Val & Frank

maslow's hierarchy of needs

Each of us is motivated by needs. Our most basic needs are inborn, having evolved over tens of thousands of years. Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs helps to explain how these needs motivate us all.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs states that we must satisfy each need in turn, starting with the first, which deals with the most obvious needs for survival itself.

Only when the lower order needs of physical and emotional well-being are satisfied are we concerned with the higher order needs of influence and personal development.

Conversely, if the things that satisfy our lower order needs are swept away, we are no longer concerned about the maintenance of our higher order needs.

Maslow's original Hierarchy of Needs model was developed between 1943-1954, and first widely published in Motivation and Personality in 1954. At this time the Hierarchy of Needs model comprised five needs. This original version remains for most people the definitive Hierarchy of Needs.

So what was Maslow's take on people commenting on others personal choice and deciding that those choices were personal NEEDS that were in fact not what they NEED at all {;-)

Euro,

Maslow describes WANTS and NEEDS. I guess Roger could be on the WANTS side of the Equation, and your on the WANTS and NEEDS

Giving this further thought Frank and Val.

As a retired person I am able to make Spontaneous descisions as we don't have the ties of a work routine or financial restraints.

My experience stiil gets called upon and I often give Creative input that solves problems for others. I have what some today consider a high Moral code and high levels of acceptance and all though I question others actions living in foreign countries I'm not considered one to hold prejudices.

Self-actulization or am I just top of me own deluded

Just as a note

Yes RogerL does need to be a member of this forum. Just because I do not agree with him and his recent comments wound me up, does not in any way reduce his valuable input to the forum in any way. He (and any other user) have the right to their opinion and it is as valid as the next. I would not be involved in this forum if everyone agreed on everything. I can get that sort of conversation anywhere.

What makes this forum good is its diversity. Lets keep it that way.

RogerL. Just a quick note for you so you understand my point of view.

I have bad legs, bad enough for me to appear at this years Easter rally with a frame attached to pins in my legs. I am unable to get out of a car with ease if I have had a bad day and use a discovery because I can get out without putting weight on bent legs. My van was selected to use for a family of 4 and needed to have a large end bathroom (I need the space to move around) and the extra width between the seats at the front. Many other people choose their vans and cars based on reasons that others do not see. The mother dropping her kids off may just be on her way to pick up the horse trailer or may need the space and size for medical reasons.

Hell, the choose of car is down to the user, they pay for it and at this time it is a brave person who picks a large 4x4 because of the abuse they get.

Please do not stop posting because of my comments. As I have said, every member has input that is valuable with very little exception. We don't agree on one issue, but I would be happy to discuss that or any other issue around our hobby that we will agree on

I have seen your legs Steve, and can confirm, they are indeed bad. Why you insist on wearing short skirts (should I be saying this?) I will never know. The least you could do is shave them regularly and wear ankle socks, instead of tights (I'm really not sure how far to take this) and those high heels, while quite alluring, do not go with the lumber jacket.

Far be it for me to criticize another's limbs, but I thought a validation of the statement that you have bad legs, should not go...err.... unvalidated?

The backs of your hands ain't too bad though, perhaps you should emphasize them instead?

Finally we have arrived at people buy cars as it's there choice - god would it be boring if we all drove around in model a. because that what the government says we have I remember going to E Germany and seeing Trabants and nothing else and taking to an E German who couldn't believe that we had brand choice and didn't have to wait months for a new car.

Damn good point MH - Only totalitarian states or individuals of a totalitarian state of mind have the arrogance to try to dictate what others should drive or "need" to drive.

Little Hitlers the lot of them

It's bad news for all motorists if there are less cars in the top two bands. Gordon has seen the way to make money and if the top two bands were to disappear tomorrow then he would simply hike up the rest. As for Ken's congestion charge he is scared to enlarge the zone eastwards as Tower Hamlets etc. is his voting heartland.

The one good thing about all this is the lack of need for transport of people any more. Pretty soon if the likes of Red Ken have thier way then the whole world will do as i do.

That is be able to work from home easier than work from an office. I wonder what will happen to Red Kens Empire when he has no one travelling to it?
