Now I know the credit has crunched...

Walked into my local BMW dealer at the weekend - interested in their entry level 1 Series, which doesn't make me a big spender a-la-BMW...

I have always liked Beemers, but one thing you don't expect from their dealers is number crunching in your favour. Buy a Beemer, pay the high price...

To cut to the chase, within half an hour I had been offered a £1,500 dealer contribution to the deposit, a £2,000 discount off the list price (unasked for!!), £300 above quoted price on my trade in (without them even seeing the car). Two hours after I got home, the phone rang and said salesmen offered me a further £30 reduction on the quoted monthly payment.

That added up to a really big discount - with absolutely no haggling from me.

"Don't know how they (the bosses) have done it, but I think they cut the interest rate. I told them I really needed this deal. I haven't sold a car today," he confessed.

Now it's not often you see a BMW car salesmen in distress - it's definitely a new experience for me. But if this is what the credit crunch does for us consumers, then long may it last...o-)!!!!!

Hi Colinn, I'm in a similar position.

Managed to sell my car privately and have been looking for a car. Not a new one just a newer second hand one.

Went out yesterday and just went dreaming into the Audi garage.

Bought it today!! A brand new A3 cabriolet.

Never felt in such a position of power before, managed 10% discount off car (
