Omnivent roof fan

I was thinking of fitting an omnivent roof fan in place of my standard roof vent. But are they any good? I don't suppose they cool the van down unless you are standing directly underneath them. Are they just another sort of cooker extractor? Anyone got one on their van who could give an opinion? Thanks.
 
These things seem best on blow, when its hot its great just to stand underneath and cool down, saves on taking a hair dryer too.
