all caravans were designed to work with the ecectic or gas heater overnight. I know this but has anybody ever tried to run their blow heating overnight , my guess would be that it would probably too much for the blower motor. Does any one use theirs overnight ...all comments welcome...

We've had ours on all night - no worries. Once you've achieved the temperature you want, leave the blower on low and it stays nice and warm.

We get up to speed on 2000 - then turn it down accordingly. For overnight, we leave it on 500.

We found that using the 'fire' initially warmed the van up more quickly and then switched over to the blower. As it's my lady who took control of that, I'm actually not to sure what to do to be honest! I think the fire is gas and the blown heating is all-electric...
Still - it works great and our van is snug!

If you arrive on site and your caravan is extremely cold, switch your heater onto gas 3kw. for 15-20 minutes. This will quickly heat up your caravan and then switch over to 230 volt. We have done this many times when winter caravaning in low temps.We lived in Derbyshire for many years, enjoy your weekend.From the temps the weather men have given out for next weekend, cold but dry, if possible use propane gas.

We warm our van with the gas / electric fire & then run the fan to distribute the warm air evenly.
If we are on EHU we run the underfloor heating overnight, this gives a nice warm, not too hot feeling in the van.
Oops sorry forgot its only the German built vans that have underfloor heating, he said gloating

) heheheheWARNING - anorak time - I've worked out, by trial and error, that 1000w copes with a 12 degree C temperature difference for our 15' internal length caravan. We like to maintain 18 C internally overnight so if the weather forecast gives an overnight low of 12 degrees or more, we use 500w setting - for 6-11 we use 1000w, for -6 to +5 we use 2000w, and for colder than -6 we gas +electric.
Different length caravans will obviously need more or less heat and others may want higher or lower internal temperatures.
At night we set the fan to minimum to reduce the noise variations.
Our fan runs continuously 24/7 regardless of temperature - it helps with ventilation in summer.

We leave our heating on overnight but without the blower. The blower takes the heat through pipes which go under the floor outside the caravan, cooling it on route, and then bring the cooled air back to where you want to be kept warm. To me, that seems a bit of a waste.

We, like Denise mentioned, leave our electric heater on 500 overnight but without the blower. Sometimes find I have to crack open the ceiling vent to stop the air drying out too much but we are nice and warm.

If I put the eleck blower on set the caravan stat the heating goes off and on ok but the blower stays on all the time is this right?

I would personaly prefer to use a 15 quid oil filled rad for over night heating. The motors in the blow air system do have a life and if its a Carver one then you wont get another and if its a Truma one then its 60 quid.
Hi have been reading this post with interest and still don't know if we are using our heating correctly. We have the Truma ultraheat. We always put the fan on, is it ok then to put the heater on either gas or electric and not use the fan. We get good heat when on gas but on electric it is not so good. I always think it will overheat without the fan. Can someone reassure me. Thanks Denise

At the risk of repeating myself....
We crank the gas fire up to warm the van and once at the required temp. we switch over to the electric blown heating, which keeps us very warm indeed.

The majority of modern caravan heaters use a thermostat to regulate the gas flow to the appliance according to the demand, so it should within reason be able to maintain a fairly steady internal temperature regardless of the out side conditions.
The same is true of the electric heating elements. You will need to refer to the instructions for your specific model for details, but in essence it should be perfectly safe to use either gas or electric heating all night.
The use of the fan may be beneficial and keeping the air well mixed in the caravan. Without it you will start to get stratification where all the hot air collects at the top of the caravan whilst you can get quite cold at floor level.
If you are on an electric hook up that I would strongly recommend using the fan all night set on low just to keep things well stirred.

We spent last christmas (2007) near Chamonix in the Alps in our 'van and we never saw temperatures above minus 3C the whole time we were there! Minus 14c at night meant we definitely used the electric heating right through to the next morning when we switched to gas to free up the electrics for other things. As previous posts have said the systems are designed to be used for considerable periods and we did not experience any problems. the french electric supplies were another matter but once you remembered to not overload the system all was OK.

We have just been away for 2 weeks Had fire on elec setting either 500 or 1000 and centre button on high The fan was only put on to warm bathroom Worked well and we never got cold
Well, thanks to everyones help , we spent a lovely and nice and warm weekend in the Lickpenny site at matlock, The heating worked fantastic on all night with the blower, it was -7 outside and if anything we were even too warm !!! (never thought that was poss when it was so cold overnight .
We left the heater on 2kw all night and turned the blower down to a lower speed .If any one is unsure about using the fan/heater overnight dont be it really does work.
Just a couple of things to remember
1.when your fire has heated up turn on your fan but dont expect instant heat through your fan vents leave them open and after about 10 mins you will feel proper heat coming through (its easy to turn off after a couple off mins and think that it dont work)
