Yes, sorry Garry, I was referring to them being down. Don't know why but I'd have thought that this stop the van being overturned. Just shows how wrong you can be. I feel so sorry for those people, don't you ?

I saw the weekend weather forecasts and there was no way I would have been caravanning on Dartmoor with an Awning up.

It's no wonder some don't want to insure them.
the gales down here in Devon were not forecast until after we had pitched up unfortunately.

our small porch awning has survived 60mph winds before, but no one on site anticipated/predicted 100mph winds on saturday night.

luckily, its a porch awning. so if un-repairable,
