Passat 130bhp automatic vs manual

Hi

Wondering about swapping our 2002 Passat 130 sport (6 speed manual) for a newer Passat (not the latest model). Does anyone have any experience of towing with a Passat tiptronic, any feedback on gearbox reliability, mpg etc?

When I bought the Passat Estate Auto I'd never driven an auto before and now I wouldn't go back to manual. The auto is a bit more thirstier than the manual but for me it's worth it. When we changed vehicles last February for a Sorento I deliberately went for another auto and don't regret it at all. We only changed the car because we were ordering a heavier van otherwise we would still have the Passat.

Don't get me wrong though. After initially thinking the Sorento was ugly I love it. Again the Sorento is thirstier than the Passat but I only use it locally except for going off on our jaunts.
