find out the cars kerbwieght, this is the max you can sensibly tow, 85% of the kerbweight is the recommended max,the whole idea is to stop the tail wagging the dog.

thanks, tony a. i am new to caravanning.we used to have a very large tent but putting it up got to my back,now what i mean? so i thank you for the reply.and will follow your suggestion.

Be careful. My data tells me that the maximum permissible towload of the 1.9l Partner is only 1100kg which would allow you to tow only a relatively light caravan. Better check in your owner's handbook or at a dealer to make sure.
 
Lutz is right about the low max tow. But if you are happy with a smaller or lightweight 'van I've heard the Partner is a very nice towcar.
