Can I suggest you take off the blinkers as one of the regular posters on here is one of the people who lost their employment! Secondly there is not need for me to be specific about businesses that have folded due to Net zero zealots. However, can I suggest that you use your fingers to use Google if you need more in depth knowledge. It is quite simple to use Google once you know how.

There has been growth in the green sector that isn’t widely acknowledged, and this is estimated to significantly increase over the next period of time. Here’s an extract from a recent ONS report.

• Green Jobs:In 2023, the UK's green jobs sector had an estimated 690,900 full-time equivalents (FTEs), up from 513,300 in 2015, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

It’s difficult to find a direct equivalence for the fossil fuel sector and its supply chain. But a 2025 House of Commons report stated there had been a 50% reduction in a decade.
But I suspect the figures may not fully include people where the reduction in sales of fuels and the mix of fuels pose threats to their jobs. IE refineries, transport, storage, even petrol stations.

During a recent Countryfile programme a mixed agriculture farmer when interviewed said only 35% of the income came directly from farming. His wife worked part time, there was a farm shop, and holiday accommodation, plus ice cream production all of which made up the bulk of the income. Having a solar station, battery bank or wind tower(s) can make a big difference to a farmers livelihood and ability to continue to farm.

The situation of the member you refer to is unfortunate and of course must be personally difficult for him, though his particular circumstances are far from common. I, and I am sure others have been through redundancy and understand the life changing effects it can have. When circumstances are so divers across all forms of employment, It is unsafe to predict a generalisation based on a single experience.

However the forum can't just ignore a major subject of national if not international interest because of one person's affiliation to the forum. It is somewhat ironic that you make this call especially as it was you who introduced the subject into this thread along with unsupported "facts" in post #9

Whilst there is no doubt, the changes brought about by the wider use of renewables will mean business plans have to change in the energy industry, and that will mean some types of work will need less manpower, there are new opportunities being created, in new areas, where some skills will transfer or may need some retraining.

This is nothing new, there have been major employment issues at various points in history when a shift in social circumstance's or industrial developments have occurred.

It is likely greater job losses will arise from Government's financial changes on all types of employment.

According to the motor press the days of inferior quality goods from PRC may be history. The technology in Tobes Polestar is mind blowing.
More so they have very cleverly increased prices. Remember the old cheap Skodas and Kias? No longer cheapos but still,great warranties.

The dealer network is a bit thin but Better than Tesla.
Anyone know how good the EV warranties and dealer attitude is?

My grandson is on his second Tesla Y and neither have given any problems. This latest one is leased via Octopus, and the nearest service centre is Bristol. He just arranges for the car to be collected for service. That way he doesn’t need to take time out from work or time at weekend. Daughters MG dealership will collect hers FOC for a forthcoming software update.

No, I told her that the model above were subject to free software updating to cure a fault. The car battery can become low and if at the same time you approach a slope/ hill the engine revs higher than would be normal as it’s driving you up the hill and trying to charge the battery simultaneously. We unite uncomfortable feeling.

Since hers is the same powertrain I suggested that hers should be updated. So the dealership agreed and asked her to bring it in, telling her that it’s quite a lengthy process. Since she’s going to a new post and still having to do visits in the outgoing position she told them she would like a courtesy car. They offered a manual, but although she has a full licence she hasn’t driven a manual since her test, and will not drive one. After much discussion she told them in no uncertain terms she’d reject it. So the service manager agreed to pick daughters car up and leave her car on daughters driveway. She didn’t have to use the nuclear option of seat latching failure in NCAP as that’s subjudice.

She frightens me at times so I can sympathise with the service managers dilemma 😂

Wrt the Tesla it’s leased via Octopus for everything but not sure how the collection/delivery is arranged.

Just to add that Tesla’s have no set service schedule other than tyre rotation at 6500miles, blades every 12 months, brake fluid 2 yearly, cabin filter etc. Some of the tasks can be done by non Tesla agencies without invalidating the warranty. The car tells you when work is required and dependant on the work a Tesla mobile tech can attend to your home or preferred location. Estimated total cost over 3 years/60000 miles are £338 based on 2024 prices. Much cheaper than even a small petrol engined car. Add to that the savings in energy (fuel costs) and it’s a not unattractive option.

I used to get free collection & delivery for my Hyundai, easy as the service manager passed nearby on his way to work. My company cars were collected & delivered, part of the dealer's attempt to get the fleet business.

In the case of the EVs, it's more a case of establishing the brand and overcoming scepticism.

There doesn't yet seem to be any industry consensus on ranking of Chinese brands, either by quality or reliability - but plenty of anecdotal stories both good and bad. If I was in the market for an EV I wouldn't know where to start.

We first used that dealership to buy and service our Citroen BX estate and again in 2010 for a Nissan Note. Whilst the dealership has obviously changed over the years they still give good service. They are also likely to get themselves a sale of a new MGZS in 2-3 years time.

Albeit rare, that can happen to almost any car regardless of power source or brand - but Rolls-Royces never breakdown - they merely fail to proceed!

What was the doctors car? My daughter brought the ZS around to show me. I must admit the main menu screen and front of wheel display make my Toyota look like something from the dark ages in terms of graphical display and clarity of vision in sunlight. Plus it’s got an array of proper switches below tge screen, which reacts quickly to touch inputs. Quite impressed.

One vital bit of information missing was the cost of a new Polestar 4. So I have looked it up, and they START at £60k The long range dual motor version is £66k !!!

I spec'd a new Volvo V60 PHEV recently, with the towbar and some toys it was £60k. Unaffordable for me.

Back on track The Polestar Spec is impressive .
If I had one I think I'd like a day with a boffin explaining all. 😜

It's a must try. I really can't imagine not looking out of the rear window when reversing 😜

I had to explain how the adaptive cruise worked to my father on his Ford Puma. It also has a heated steering wheel which I covet in the winter.

They can pick up verges. My daughter was commenting that along one lane the verge was cut back during resurfacing. Now when she drives down that road her MG 3 picks up on the edge of the the tarmac and squeaks away, giving a gentle vibratory push to the right, and the road is not edged in white paint either.

I've heard the same thing from tests of cars with this new tech and it can be dangerous on narrow roads, pushing the car into oncoming traffic.

My experience with the Ford Puma was that the Lane Keep assist which was on by default worked ok [on the main roads & motorways I've driven it on] but the active steering option which was turned on via a steering wheel button [with a steering wheel icon} just sent the car in to an oscillation from side to side as it tried to maintain the centre of the lane.
