Practical Caravan Staff

Hi there

Do you still have your Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2 Diesel?

I only ask, because i find my engine has a noticable growl between 2000 and 3000 revs under load (very noticable when towing). However it is not that noticable when not towing so I am having trouble replicating it to the garage.

Apart from that I find it a great towcar, if only it was a little more economical, but considering it weighs nearly 4 tonnes when it is loaded with a 1480kg caravan on the back and three bikes on the roof of the car you can't have everything can you!!

The car weighs 1825 kg empty, it has a just under 600 kg payload. We load the car with the awning, Cadac, fridge & 3 bikes on top of the usual holiday clutter. So the car is well (but still legally) loaded.

Add a near on 1500kg caravan and to me it is significantly over 3500kg.

Sorry, I should add mine is the Peugeot 4007, but running gear should be the same as the 2.2 Outlander.

Emmerson, the GTW for the car is over 4500kg.

And I thought my outfit was heavy with Range Rover LSE (2.2 tonnes), and classic van (1.6 tonnes) I've never dared weigh it when loaded for the annual Euro-jaunt!

It's scary when you think about it!!! The car may be a bit ott for our needs (there are only 3 of us), but we don't travel light, & having got a previous car well and truly stuck on a cl a couple of years ago, when we got the opportunity toget a 4x4, we went for it.
