Heard Gordon Brown say on the news yesterday that Prison Officers have got to show discipline regarding their pay.

So we can expect MP's to do the same, can we?

Minimum wage on the checkout at Tesco ???

Bus Driver, Sailor, Soldier, Airman. Forecourt Attendant, Shelf Stacker

Tax Payers have rights to. The more the Goverment pays out the more it needs to take in. In tax !!!!

While on the subject of comparing jobs and conditions I found this on a careers website ....

Paramedic: Salary and conditions

Salaries are determined by The National Health Service (NHS)' Agenda for Change pay banding system. Paramedic salaries are in Band 5, which ranges from

I think one of the things that really upset people is the vast disparity in salaries. When i read a manager getting 1700 times what his employees get, then one does wonder what is going on. And as for MP's they take the absolute biscuit for money for old rope. The latest round of bumber bonuses for city flyers does not make that group too many friends either.

I fully agree with one of the previous comments about train drivers. They are responsible for carrying more people than the average airplane but get a fraction of the salary. Especially as most planes fly themselves these days.

One thing I do know is that the average British worker tends to work far longer hours than anyone else in Europe and gets fewer perks for the job in terms of holidays etc. Maybe that is why we are paying for Europe, ok, ok, don't let us get started on that one again.

The one downside to the strike action is that if they win, then there will be knockon effects that will cost us all dearly in the long run. They will win a battle, we will lose a war so to speak.

sorry i put this in the wrong place.

PM

So ALLEN, what you are saying everyone doing manual labour

should retire at 55?

"I know nothing about it" brother in law became one last year,

he is 40 and thinks its far better than the production work

he did before.!

Damm right you should work till 60 or 65, seems like everyone

these days thinks they have the worst or hardest or most

unrewarding job going!!!

so please tell me [anyone] which jobs deserve the most money?

and which jobs don't, maybe do some sort of league table and

tell me where prison officers should fit in?

I will start it off they are below the police nurses and

paramedics, they contribute nothing! just keep the lowlifes

locked up. not rocket science and not that dangerous.

far more sales reps and lorry drivers are killed or seriuosly

injured.. hey maybe i deserve a bigger wage rise, i am important

too you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one forces them to do the job.

gio, as far as I'm concerned one of the most important jobs, but some probably will disagree with me, are dustmen. I don't know what their pay is like but not too many want the job. Another point regarding them, women have infiltrated most jobs which were mainly male only but theres not too many women fighting for the refuse collecting jobs.

That's because there's a big possibility we might break a fingernail.

I think Prison Officers do a fantastic job and they deserve good terms and conditions of employment. Reading between the lines, I see a bit of jealousy creeping into some posts. If people have jobs deemed to be 'good and well paid' then good for them. I consider myself as having a good and well paid job too. Sorry if that upsets anyone.

I can't believe that some people have no idea how dangerous being a Prison Officer actually is. I'm not one myself obviously but I know some through my work.

How many people would like to tackle some of these notoriously nasty criminals?

How many people go to work each day wondering if something might be thrown in their face (boiling water for starters)?

How many people go to work each day wondering if they might get stabbed with a sharp instrument?

How many people would have the self discipline to work with paedophiles/sex offenders and child murderers without actually attempting to do them a bit of harm?

It's not a job I would want to do but I do admire them.

take your piont regarding dustman, and i believe that since it

went out to tenders many moons ago the money is poor, but even

that job is not as bad as it used to be, what with all these

plastic bins and some only doing 4 days.

Piont i should have tried to make is there are lots and lots

of shitty jobs, everything is about money these days, yet

"the majority will not starve, or go without a decent standard

of living.

Problem is everybody believes they are worth more, but by now

everybody should know where that leads.

gio. someone who has not had a payrise in 18 months
