Problem with Y reg Freelander TD4

Hello All

We have a problem with our Freelander. When we accelerate to 70mph its as if it hits a barrier and won't progress past this as if it had cruise control engaged. Its intermittent and we have had fuel pump etc changed and various other bits and pieces. Also did this at 50mph before fuel pump changed. Sorry i am not very technically minded but I will pass any advice on to my other half who is but is defeated by this one as are the garage who look after it. Have found reference to the existence of this problem on a Landrover enthusiast site but advice all seemed to start with 'first dismantle your landrover!' And yes I do know what the speed limits are but its worrying if one needs to accelerate to get out of trouble etc

Have asked husband and he says that he will try it when we get home tonight. Will let you know later. It sometimes will exceed 70 and then hits this barrier at say 75 sometimes its OK.

i'm not technically minded enough to really help, but i'm sure someone on this site will be.

I would of thought, given that your revs are not limited, then you speed should not be?

Maybe you are on the mark with your comment re cruise control, would it be possible to have it disabled?

I would certainly know if my CC was operating, as the car takes on a strange "feeling" that i don't like.

I would of thought if it was fuel starvation, you would hit the barrier at a certain speed in each gear, say on level ground for example, maybe worth a try, put the auto into manuel mode.

Apart from the land rover forum suggested try honest john forum, on the backroom.

Whilst the symptoms are not the usual ones, the BMW engine is VERY prone to MAF failure - Bosch rubbish! I had two Rover 75's, both of which needed them replacing. When the second car had it's replaced there was an intermittant fault which was present from day one. The car would accelerate normally from stand still, and then on occasions when changing to a higher gear it would be as flat as anything. I complained to the dealer who said, "ah, well, it's had a new MAF, so it can't be that, but it could be anything." I replaced the Bosch MAF with a Pierburgh and a Roverron Synergy 2, and never looked back.

Try disconnecting the MAF and see what happens. It's located at the rear of the engine at the end of the air filter.

Hope you get it sorted, as my father had a 2002 Freelander (auto) which was never a moments bother, and would go above 70, although not that quickly!

By the way it was the boost solenoid (part of the turbocharger) which was failing.
