psi and tyres

Oue elddis pamperos has new 175R13C tyres which we fitted by the dealer we purchased it from, it also had a service. We went yesterday to check tyre pressure before going away next week. In the caravan's handbook it recommends a PSI of 36psi BUT the actual psi was 47. Now being new to caravanning we have assumed the dealer had the correct psi but which one should I be going with?

Julie,

When you come across anything to do with safety NEVER assume the otherperson has carried out the relevant checks, unless you are sure that the person involved is qualified to do so. The person who put the air in your tyres for all you know, could have been the same person who washes the vans.

As Tony says check the tyres are the same size as stated in the handbook and if so then the pressure stated will be the correct one to use. However if they are differnt to the handbook then I would query this with your dealer, for not fitting the correct size as recommended by the manufacture,

Best regards, Martin

HI Julie.

First of all, I would check that the new tyres are the same size and ply rating as stated in your caravan hand book.

If that is correct then I would use the pressure the hand book recomends. Also on the sidewall of the tyre you will see some writing describing the maximum load rating of the tyre. As an example it might say max load 900Kgs at 65Psi. This is stating the maximum weight for that tyre and the maximum air pressure.

I the example, you must not inflate the tyre beyond 65Psi.
