Good news for the Workers at Nissan with the next generation of Quashqai and X trail being built up there in Sunderland, :)

Could not agree more about the 1600 engine although it is rated at 130ps and 1800 braked towing weight, my previous Quashqai was 2000cc, 150ps but 1400 braked towing weight, from what I have been told at the dealership the next generation will have a lot more beefier enegines,

Hi, I have nothing against the 1600 engine, it is fine for many people but something a bit bigger is needed as an alternative though for those who need it. With no bigger engine they must have lost sales.

I'm only paying £30.00 a year for road tax on the Quashqai because low emissions and savings on weight like not providing a spare wheel, but in saying that I have been down to North Somerset this year and it towed a treat but I would not like to try a hill start on Porlock Hill, :)

In the last 10 and certainly within in the last 5 years, there has been some incredible work done on the performance of modern petrol and diesel engines. Tricks like turbocharging which were most common on diesels, are no finding favour on petrol engines and transforming their abilities. How it is affecting long term reliability is yet to be shown.

But as a result you can no longer generalise that a modern 1600cc engine will be any less capable than an older 2000cc model by engine size alone. You have to look at the wider horizon of power outputs & torque across the RPM band, not to mention the changes in gear ratio's which affect how teh power is transferred from the engine to ground.

Don't simply dismiss a modern car becasue its got a smaller engine than it's predecessor.

I go along with what you say in terms of modern engineering when it comes to getting the best out of any engine which is generated with a computer programme, but there is a difference with this 1600cc dci(130ps) all dancing Renault/Nissan engine compared to my last 2008 Quashqai that had 2000cc dci(150ps), losts more torque at lower revs which you do not get from the 1600cc, :)

I decided to get my 2008 Hyundau Santa Fe , remapped, wonderfull, 154 bhp to 184, lots more torque, to pull the van, 4 mpg on towing. Insurance said no increase to the premiums.
Fantastic.

Thats fine, because you have not simply looked at the engine size. My comment was not only directed at this particular thread, because there have been plenty of others where a vehicle has been condemned simply on teh basis of its engine capacity, with no reference to the powerband or torque characteristics.

I think that is the petrol engine what you are looking at,

Look at the Brochure on the Nissan UK website. It is refereed to as "dCi 177" ie 130kw / 177ps, with a torque of 380N -m. Definately Diesel.
Oddly, there is no kerb weight specified.
