In the years (almost 50) we have been caravanning, we have observed the change of CL ownership attitude.
CL's were once run by people with a piece of ground (farm/orchard/large garden etc) which they were prepared to make available for those travelling and wanting a place to stay in a rural environment. A chat with strangers was sometimes the land owners motivation. There was almost no cost to the owner because the public liability insurance nonsense hadn't been started, there was hardly ever electricity, or pitch marking. All they offered was drinking water from a tap, and a place to empty a toilet. A few pounds changed hands, perhaps no more than £2 per night.

There’s a commercial site we have been to in Norfolk that has a CL attached. The CL pitches are serviced and separated by hedges so quite nice and spacious. The commercial top spec pitches were nice too but didn’t have separation hedges. But we’re still nice sizes and well separated. CL was £38 pn. Commercial £35 pn. We went commercial fsp in November 2020. Things have certainly changed. The days of a month away on a nice site for £300 are history.
We use a CL in North Norfolk - well spaced pitches (no hedges), toilet/shower, EHU and TV point - £10/night all year round - we'll be there for 21 nights in March.
That's the beauty of CLs, they cover such a wide range of facilities and prices that there's something for everyone.
The problem is that people keep mentioning it. CL's are getting busier and that means less room for us. 😀
