Next May eight of us (4 couples) are travelling from S. Manchester to the Haynes Motor Museum near Yeovil and then on to the New Forest to visit the Beaulieu Motor Museum. SWMBO and I shall be travelling in our Caterham 7, plus there will hopefully be an MGC, an MGTF and a classic Mini Traveller. I have organised our overnight stay near the Haynes Motor Museum, but

does anyone have any recommendations for B & B accommodation with 4 double rooms in the New Forest area. Ideally we are looking for some pub accommodation with decent parking.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi Dusty

We are just on the Northern edge of the New Forest - and have no personal idea of the B&B's in the area as we live here!

But a nice pub is the Compasses at Damerham (between The New Forest and Cranborne Chase) - it has quite a few rooms and is the only Pub I know off hand that has that number of bedrooms.

There is also the Ashburn hotel in Fordingbridge that is OK and is in easy walking distance to the local pubs in the town.

If I hear of any others from people who may have a better idea I will post again.

If staying at the northern end of the Forest is attractive as opposed to nearer Beaulieu (journey to Beaulieu is easy and probably at its best in the morning) the journey from the Haynes Museum is easy and very picturesque. I suggest 303 then cross country to Gillingham, Shaftsbury, up Zig Zag hill (as it sounds and would be GREAT fun in a 7 - and at the top look to the left to see Madonna's place if you are interested), Tollard Royal, Sixpenny Handley, Cranborne then Damerham.

Hope this helps.

The accom was first class for those staying overnight. It is the idylic forest setting. Website www.highcornerinn.com Well worth having a look at.

Thanks for all your responses.

We do know the area to a certain extent as the OH has a cousin who lives in Verwood and her uncle used to live near Cranbourne. When we go we always use the Camping Club site at Verwood and so have no experience of B & Bs in the area and like you Clive her cousin has no personal experience of B & Bs as they live in the area! This was possibly the wrong forum to ask as most contributors would be staying in their 'vans when visiting the New Forest but I do now have a few possibilities. I always feel that personal recommendations are better than picking places from brochures, websites, etc.

Clive, We have eaten at the Compasses a few times but was looking for somewhere perhaps a little closer to Beaulieu. Thanks for the suggested route, I shall certainly look forward to Zig Zag hill and may have to tackle it a couple of times:)
