Does any one have a Koleos Dymanique Sdci 2.0L 150 FAP 4x4 auto?
We have a sterling europa 495 and wondered if this outfit would be ok for this car?
Been to have a look at one today to replace my ageing volvo v70 auto, the car is really a very good runner.
The dealership cannot tell me if the car matched my caravan and i am too damn thick to work it out :)
Any advice would be greatley recieved

From What Towcar website:
Renault Koleos - 2.0 dCi [4WD] (110 kW/148 bhp)
Date of manufacture: june 2008 - up to now

82%
1469 kg 1785 kg Important for safe towing is the weight ratio between Car and Caravan. The weight ratio (loaded caravan / kerbweight tow car) for the Renault and Sterling is 82%. The match between car and caravan is perfect.

Thanks Damian -Mod! Hope you dont mind me calling you Damian-MOD!
I have had a look at the website , my only concern is the list only states auto 2WD and does not list auto 4WD 150bhp?
Both the dealership and i have looked and cannot quite work out which is the car we are possibly going to purchase?

Hence my blooming confusion!

The problem with Renault is they use a mind defying system to arrive at , normally, a ridiculously low tow weight.
You will need to be very careful and study the detail in the Tech Spec of the vehicle.

I think the Auto has a lower tow limit, most do.

Renault, unless they have changed, give a kerbweight accounting for just the driver, add pasengers, fuel etc and it all gets very confusing,as you have already found.

Maybe Lutz has more up to date info if he reads this?

I'm sorry, I can't be of much help because the UK Renault website no longer lists the Koleos. I tried the both the French and the German Renault websites and they still show the Koleos, but as it is apparently no longer offered as an automatic in both countries (at least the websites show no reference to the automatic) I can only find details of the manual version.
Koleos Dynamique dCi FAP 150 4x4 (MANUAL):
Kerbweight: 1730kg
Max. GVW: 2300kg
Max. Towload: 2000kg
Gross Train Weight is 4300kg
As I said, this data is for the manual, but the dealer should be able to get corresponding details off the automatic that Sapper is interested in by looking at the VIN plate and these details will be the only source of authoritative information anyway. Always rely on what's on the VIN plate. Data found anywhere else is for guidance only.

ps: I've since found a couple of independent websites both quoting a towload of only 1350kg for the automatic. That's a lot less than the manual's specification, but I don't know how reliable those sources are, so the figure needs to be confirmed.

That data sounds ball park to me.
The xtrail auto will tow around 1300kg, the manuel 2200kg.

Damien is right in what he says about the auto versions. The braked towing capacity is normally a lot lower than the kerbweight so I suggest that you be very carefull. Why don't you ask a Renault dealer before committing yourself? As an example we were looking at a Peugesot 3008 1600cc diesel auto with a kerbweight of 1500kg. The maximum braked towing weight was 1100kg with energy saving tyres and 1300kg with non energy saver tyres! the auto gearbox on it was a joke as it seem to lurch between the gears.
In order to get around this as it chnaged gear you had to take your foot off the accelerator. If towing a caravan when it lurches (slows down) between gears, the caravan woudl brake but then the car is trying to pull forward at the same time so lots of fun and games. Caravan members on the Peugeot forum recommended that when towing to select the manual mode and change when appropriate. Sort of defeats the purpose of buying an auto.
I know that Peugeot, Citroen and Renault use the same transmission so they woudl all have a smilar problem, but have no idea on the Kaleos.

Yet again a third party tow matching web site has been shown to be inadequate.

The calculation is not difficult, but you do need to get reliable data about limits, and that can only be accurately gleaned from the Vehicle data plate, registration document, or the manufacture by quoting the vin plate number. You should also be able to use the vehicle hand book, but I have recently found both printing errors, and the fact that many handbooks are not model specific.

Aparently the Koleos is based on the Nissan Xtrail,

Whilst trying to remove the TRIPLE post of the vehicle specs (PLEASE only submit ONCE, it takes time to come up on the forum!!), it also inadvertently tookout a reply by Lutz which said the figures quoted in those specs were definitely for the MANUAL version, NOT the Auto .

Sorry Lutz

Thank you to everyone who has given me some very very useful information, i really do appreciate your comments.
At the dealership yesterday i was not 100% and my gut feeling is telling me my Steling Catravan is too heavy for the Koleos!
So back to the drawing board, i need to replace my Volvo V70 D5 auto is too low to get in and out, as i have a back & Hip problem, thanks to the Army

Having endured (yes endured IS the right word) a Renault for 7 years of hell I would never look at another one.
However, back to the point, why not have a look at the Sedona (unless you are really after a 4x4)
They have a high up seating position, are huge in internal space and great tow cars.
I have had my 2004, 2.9 diesel for just over 18 months now and it is effortless (and has not broken down once), very comfortable and I wish I had spent my money on one in the first place.
