Hi,

Does anyone have experience of towing with a new Renault Magane 19TDI Privelage 120. We have a 2004 Bailey Ranger 510 4/L MTPL 1250Kg. I understand the Megane has a Kerb Weight and Max toe of around 1300Kg. I know this exceeds the 85% recomendation but I have 6 years towing experiance and need to buy a smallisk economical car as new job involves a 110 mile round trip every day to office. My other options are a new Zafira 2.0 TDI, or 1.8i petrol laguna.

Any feedback much appreciated .

Thanks

I fear that unless you are going to travel with the car well nigh empty, you will not be able to tow a caravan with an MTPLM of 1250kg legally behind the Megane. The Megane has a max. gross train weight of 2850kg and a max. GVW of 1820kg, leaving you with just 1030kg to tow if the car is fully laden.

You mention a 'new' Zafira 2.0TDI as an alternative. There ain't no such animal. The new Zafira has a 1.9CDTI engine, either in 120 or 150hp form. The 120 has a max. towload of 1200kg, the 150 may tow 1500kg so long as it's not an automatic.

The old Zafira had a 2.0DTI engine but this model suffered from a very low max. towload and would not be an adequate for your purpose.
