Repaired Caravans

I've seen a newish 2006 model caravan that has been repaired after what the seller calls "category c" damage. The insurance company supposedly has a new for old policy and the dealer has bought and repaired the 'van from the insurance company. It's in good nick as you'd expect from a newish van and it is of course a good few grand cheaper than a non repaired model.

What is a category c repair?

Is this too god to be true or, on the balance of things, does a few grand off 'list' make up for any worries?

It's our first caravan and we want to keep it a while so any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Graeme, damaged cars, and presumably caravans, are categorised by insurance companies as A - D where A = virtually impossible to repair and D = minor damage.

Cat C is " involved in an accident and deemed UNECONOMICAL to repair by the insurance company". Note the word uneconomical - it is perfectly repairable but not worth their effort.

It is quite normal for insurance companies to sell cat C vehicles on to the trade, or even the original owner, after they have paid out on the claim. If the repairs are carried out correctly then there is no reason why the van would not be in as good a condition, or better, than when it was involved in the accident.

My advise would be to establish what the damage was, who repaired it, and what warrenty is being given now. It could turn out to be a real bargain but then again perhaps not.
