Well someone had to mention it so it might as well be me.

Yippee, a royal wedding. I'm so excited.

Might look into organising a street party.

As a Welsh Royalist all I can say is congratulations and good luck to the happy couple. One thing struck me however when they appeared on the 6:00pm news together Prince William entered the room before his fiance. I was brought up that manners dictated that the man stood back to let the lady walk through a door to enter/leave a room first. Maybe I am of the old school and manners do not mean so much nowadays.

As a Royalist I thought you would have known that the Heir to the Throne takes presidence at formal occasions, and he (William) will always enter rooms before Kate.

Manners in Royal circles do not have a place, protocol does.

Good luck to them, they seem to be a really nice young couple in love unlike his usless dozy father a few years ago.
Just can't see why they should ever be King and Queen, that should end when the old gal pops her Royal clogs

In reply to Damien -- I agree with Colin.Good manners and courtesy would suggest that William should have allowed Kate to walk in front of him. This was not a formal occasion where Royal protocol would apply.
As for the other post,we are all entitled to our opinions but disrespect is not called for.

Quote "This was not a formal occasion "

But it WAS,,,,,it was the official announcement at no less than Buckingham Palace, which with all due respect is not an "informal" residence in any view.

My apologies I only saw the interview which seemed to be very informal and I assumed Colin referred to them entering the room for that.Still, its 2010 and he's a modern young fella so maybe it's time to update a little and let the ladies go first. He'd gain a lot of respect for doing so.

Echo my OH's view, good luck to them.
I just couldn't get in to street parties and another generation of children being sold the fantasy world of pomp and privelege, my own view is that the French had the right idea in 1789, OH's view is they are no different to any other citizen, hence no disrespect.

I wonder when the date will be announced. Hope we get a day off work, like other person has mentioned. I'm jsut hoping it's not the first two weeks in June, but I have a feeling it might be July.

If a day is given off work I wonder if the anti-royalists, due to their convictions and beliefs, will refuse the day off and go to work on a matter of principle
smiley-smile.gif

They will won't they?

I'm sure they will.

They wouldn't want to lose face surely.

Then again perhaps I'm being gullible.

Yep, definitely. I am being gullible

I bet half of London will be closed down , and most goverment workers will be given the day off at the taxpayers expense , yes fine give those that want a day off with out pay , so they can be like the self employed people who work in London who will lose a days wages and will also be paying taxes towards the overstaffed goverment offices and quangos

Why don't they get married out of the way at Balmoral on Christmas Eve?

Well, I guess by the time the wedding comes around, a lot of public sector workers will have lost their jobs (hurrah I hear you say) along with many other people, so the loss of one day's paid day off (if granted) won't be such a burden to self employed tax payers in that instance. Just less people paying taxes and more claiming benefits (if the benefits system is still available then).

Did anyone on here moan in 2002 when it was the Golden Jubilee and we were given an additional one day Bank Holiday?

Well, I'll watch it on the TV and will thoroughly enjoy it.

I think it's lovely that William has given Kate (oops, aren't we supposed to call her Catherine now, lol) his mother's engagement ring, and what he said about it being his way of involving his mother was really moving.

You would think that being a member of the royal family he could have run to a new ring instead of a second hand one

All the very best to Prince William and his fiancee, Kate Middleton
I hope that the engagement ring brings more joy and happiness than it did for Prince William's mother, I wish them all the luck in the world.
The wedding will provide a much needed boost to workers in The Potteries, as usual there will be plenty of cheap imported tat around but good quality items will always have a market.

My Grandmother was Catherine but she was always known as Kitty

When Chuck and Di got hitched we both went to work I doubt that there will be a day off for this wedding.
They look to be a lovely young couple and would probably stand a better chance of happiness without all the Royalty circus and courtiers calling the shots.

OK I accept that we shouldn't be paying for those who are members of the Royal family who are somewhere 50th in line to the throne but Liz and Phil cost each person of this country about 61p per year. The money they generate for the country is millions as can be seen from the world's media regarding Wills engagement. The Queens life is mapped out for her, opening this or that, constantly travelling and trying to be polite while shaking thousands of hands. Is it any wonder Phil says some outrageous things, slitty eyes comes to mind? The poor old sod must be bored. I think I'd say the same things just to liven things up. I wouldn't want their life, not being able to do or go where you choose and constantly having members of the Royal protection squad following within a few feet all the time. I wonder if she gets any peace in the bog? Probaby CCTV camera's in there as well.
Charles is another. OK he is weird talking to plants but he's spot on when he complains about modern architecture. In my own town beautiful buildings were demolished and square glass buildings were erected instead. Those boxes were a blight then as they still are today. Without people like Charlie speaking out about how citiscapes are being destroyed the architects will continue to see who can be the most outrageous. The London skyline has been spoiled because of these people who are no better than human rights lawyers.
The people who truly pee me off, apart from the likes of Fergie and her kids who we pay for, are our laughable Royal court correspondents, Jennie Bond and Nicholas Witchell. Remember him? "There's that awful man" ... heh! heh! heh!
As for going the same way as France and becoming a Republic it didn't save them in two world wars although by abandoning their country to the Germans it saved them billions in not having to pay Lend Lease money back to the Yanks which enabled them to rebuild their country faster than we could

Lord B. once again I have delight in agreeing with you 100%. However you did forget to mention H.R.H.Princess Anne (Princess Royal) - she is also a great ambassador for Great Britain. The imediate Royal family bring in far more wealth to the country than they receive from the public purse. Unfortunately there are too many parasites within the so called Royal family but we must keep the tradition of a Monarchy and not go down the route of a president - the mind boggles at the thought of President Blair - sends shivers down the spine.

Jennie Bond hasn't been able to pee you off since 2003 when she gave up the role as Royal Correspondent.
