TOYING WITH BUYING A BRETAGNE S6 AND TOWING WITH THE VECTRA.I KNOW I WILL BE TOWING OVER THE 85% GUIDE BUT WITH CAREFULL LOADING HOPEFULLY NOT TO MUCH OVER.

CURRENTLY OWN AN AVONDALE DART 510/5 [1250MTPLM] AND TOWS VERY WELL INDEED.

WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE TOWS APPROX 1400KGs WITH THE VECTRA [KW1456KGs],IS IT A SAFE AND STABLE OUTFIT?

WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW ANY FEEDBACK ON S5 & S6 BRETAGNES

THANKS IN ADVANCE

You don't say whether your Vectra is the 120hp or 150hp CDTI but in the list that I have, the 150hp version even got a 4 out of 5 star rating in the 1500kg towing category (the 120hp one wasn't listed), so 1400kg shouldn't pose a major problem.

I have a 150 bhp 05 version. I can tell you that the towing capacity for the 150 is 1600 kg's. I have not towed with mine yet(van on order) but I bought this car for the purpose of towing after plenty of research. I will only be towing a Ranger 470/4 which I hope it should do well. Sole experience I find plenty of power and excellent fuel economy. I think your car will do an ace job with your van. Dan.

I have the Astra 150 CDTi. It tows well (initially a 2005 Bailey Ranger 460/2 now a 2007 Ranger 460/4). Obvioulsy my car is lighter than the Vectra so couldn't tow 1400Kg - does it have the power - yes I would say so. Certainly with 1100Kg it flies even without hitting the sport button!

Nice to know it tows well fab. Can't wait to get the van hitched up to the Vectra. Also because the SRI models have uprated/sturdy suspension this surely means not as much bounce on the caravan?

Hi

Can't comment on the Vectra but we upgraded to a series 5 Bretangue last summer. We really like the Bretangue, the kids love the bunks at the back, the cupboard at the end of the bunk is useful for toys, the side dinette is used by both the kids and us. Our youngest son has special needs and uses the bunk as his own den - he has his own space to play games , chill out etc. We are a family of 5. We like being able to see out of the back of the van. Series 5 works for us. Series 6 we understand has a microwave oven, that is not a selling point for us.

Good luck. Annette

I tow a Coachman Amara 520/4 mtplm 1470kilo with a 150bhp Vectra SRi and find it is a super outfit very stable and plenty of power I have now towed over 10,000 miles with this outfit both at home and throughout europe and think it is far superior to my previous car a Discovery td5 plus I have averaged just over 30mpg over this distance, solo in town gives me 36.2 mpg and on a decent run around 44 mpg can I say more

Hi david,

I have a vectra estate 2.2 dti which has a max towing weight of 1400kg.

Recently purchased a Bailey Ranger series 5 same as the series 6 Pageant, The problem I discovered was not the towing weight my van is mtplm 1184 kg but the towball nose weight.

My car has amaximuim of 75 kg tow ball weight, found that the new series Baileys tend to have a 100kg noseweght with hardly anything in the front locker. To keep the noseweight down a lot of people tend to shift weights to the rear of the axle,IE with fixed beds under the bed.

On my first trip out found the van was trying to snake whenever heavy goods lorries passed. This had never happened in my previous vans last one being a Pageant.

On my second trip I re - arranged the weights to be over the axle fixing inplace with foam and fixing rods, toilet empty of water something I have never done before and the van towed okay.

I am not sure yet the reasons for the extra un-explained noseweight, as in this new van only one gas bottle in previous vans two bottles plus empty water containers.

I know the roof must be heaver as its solid unlike the old series bailey shapes.

Royston
