SAAB 93 150bhp auto

Has anyone towed with this model of car? If so could you please tell me if it is a good caravan lugger

Thanks

Nick"G"

Is it the 150 bhp CDTi unit?

If so I tow with the manual version in an Astra SRi Estate.

On pulling perfomance it is ideal, can't fault it.

Thanks FAB I believe that the SAAB engine is the turbo diesel. I was just wondering if the auto box would be forever changing up or down towing a van?

Hi Nick

For the past year I have towed with the Saab 9-3 1.9TDi manual, with 6 speed box and the 120bhp engine. Our van has a max. wt. of 1404kgs and the car copes quite well. Saab claim in their brochure it is capable of towing 1600kgs, but the car's manual clearly states 1500kgs. Stable in all conditions though one gets a little bit of bow-wave from HGV's etc but only in windy crosswind conditions. At motorway speeds returning 31/32mpg but A roads, hills, towns or strong headwinds will cause it drop to 28ish. Will tow on the flat in 6th, with speed above 55mph. Auto has, to my knowledge 5 speeds so is probably geared between 5th and 6th on my gearbox, which would suggest it might not hunt up and down much. Hope this is of some help

Bruce
