Santa fee cold starting

Chris,

I had this problem with a previous car. If it a diesel, it could be some of your glow plugs have failed. With mine 3 out of the 4 had gone down. They can be quite expensive if they need replacing.
 
Chris As said by David could be the glowplugs .when you turn the key to first position all your ignition lights come on one of these should be orange, looking like a coiled wire, wait a few seconds, this coiled wire light should then go out, then try starting your vehicle . All this does is heat a small amount of diesel during cold weather.

Thank you but i have done that and all i get is no sound not even the engine turning over and I have to try for 5 to 6 times before the engine turns over once again ty Douglas
 
Hi Chris,

If you are not getting the engine to turn over, then you have another entirely different problem. Shame you never explained your problem better in your original post.

Is your Santa Fe an automatic, it could be a start inhibit switch fault, this prevent starting in any position other than 'P' or 'N'.

If not that then get to the dealer for a diagnostic check, could be an immobiliser issue?

Thats a bit steep for them to change the starter motor....

what sort of mileage has the car done & how old is it ?
 
find starter and glow plugs both gone a bit hard to takein .

glow plugs will not stop engine turning over,imobalizer will turn over but not start.
