sharing the cost of a caravan

Many years ago my brother in law and wife's parents bought a new tourer between them and shared its costs and use for a few years. Seemed to work o.k. with them, just needed to sort out who got the use of the van on what dates. Imagine it would depend very much on the relationship the different people had with each other, could be o.k could also be a recipe for arguements and fall outs!
One of our neighbours shared his caravan with his father and that worked well. Not sure how it would work between friends though and you would need to tell your insurer of the arrangement. If you share it with friends it might be best to put in writing the ownership details and other points agreed.
