This is an old one - as a fellow shogun owner - read the label on your door window sill and the instructions for towing in the handbook!

It WARNS to use 4H for towing a trailer and a caravan is a trailer - if you don't you risk damaging your transmission.

The reason is that the later Shoguns need to be in 4WD when towing to satisfy the electronics and prevent overstressing the transmission.

Take it from me you will not notice the difference in MPG and with a viscous coupling it is absolutley OK to use 4WD on dry roads when towing, in fact they seem to drive better in 4WD (if that is possible for a Shogun)

Hi claire.

I am thinking of buying a car like yours for towing. Can you give me a realistic MPG.
Hi Paul, We haven't towed with the car yet but I'll let you know as soon as we do and how it performs - hoping to take it out soon.
