Brian, No. I am helping to open a new parts shop in my home town and they gave them to me. they gave me the full set and I am told the local trim shop wants the rears... I see a deal being made!!!!

Clive, Exmoor trim charge you for their bits!! but I would also have to fit motors and heaters to get the same spec. So all in all worth the hassle of fabricating the subframes.

Peter, No. Not my area at all

Update on the Maverick.

Dealer contacted a "specialist" today ( I suspect it was the local Nissan dealer)and managed to download fault codes. They are contacting the "specialist" tomorrow to decipher them . They think the codes are showing a fuel pump or fuel line fault. Not bad for a weeks work ;O)

Our Maverick is poorly too - the ABS light intermittently comes on and off, then stays on for ages. Garage couldn't find anything wrong with it but brakes ok. Week later, shuddery, grinding noise/feeling from brake pedal. Pump it - ok then juddery again. Taken it to garage again, will investigate, might be ABS motor. Oh dear! I feel expense coming on. Have asked them to do 6,000 mile/6 month oil change at same time.

Oh and Brian - do you get a clunky noise from underneath when on full lock?

Sorry to here about your Mav Janet. Mine hasn't got ABS so wont be having that problem.

Had two Mavs and both have clunked on full lock ,never found anything wrong .Mine has been serviced 2 or 3 times a year since I bought it at a year old ,its never failed a MOT and never given any trouble til now ,but it looks like its nothing major which isn't bad for a car with 104k miles on the clock.

He said it was only the power ster that whonts to go a bit more and it carnt go so when it starts just let the wheel go back a bit.

I hope that helps Mark

Our Mav has 104,000 on the clock (P reg - 1997). The car itself is lovely to drive, comfy, bags of room, not too bad on fuel and I do really love it. It's just a bit disappointing when things go wrong only 6 months into owning it.

I suppose we were spoilt when Jason had his other job with a company car, cos got new cars every 3 years. But to be honest, we prefer owning our own because you are not beholden to the company for anything and we don't moan at ourselves if we need more fuel or a new tyre!

I feel better about the 'clunk' though after listening to you. Does sound quite bad when you hear it though - we also have a rattle at the back - think its the spare wheel. Happy days.

Brian,

You still havn't told us wot was up with the Mav - was it the fuel pump, same as my fault, or something else?

Quite a relavant topic as you can see someone else is contemplating getting a Terrano/Maverick so an inherent problem could figure in a purchase decision.

Hi David W, yes it is the fuel pump, I don't know if I would class it as an inherent problem as the car has done 104k miles and this is the first major thing to go wrong.I will decide when it's fixed if I will change the car, difficult decision as it's part of the family ;O). If I were to change I might look at the Sorento as I can buy them at cost and the deal on a pre reg to me brings it down to low

Yes Brian I suppose you are right about the word inherrant - it's just that my Terrano had an identical problems to yours at 60k.

I didn't need much persuading to unload it as I didn't really like it. The pump issue and others made the decision easy, mine was an auto and an excellent box with odrive.

Personally I think if you were to get in a more modern 4x4 such as the Sorento you will be smitten but there you go, it's shed loads of money at the end of the day and your faithful old bus doesn't owe you MUCH yet.

I'm a fine one to talk about new motors! I tow with a twelve yar old truck and wouldn't part with it for the world.

Today's the day. Our Mav is going in to sort out the ABS problem, combined with the oil change. Hopefully it won't be too expensive. Fingers crossed.

Back from garage - all well, brakes fine, wheel bearings adjusted and oil changed. But what has annoyed me is - we bought the car 6 months ago, supposedly fully serviced. The mechanic today told me that the fuel filter and air filter haven't been changed in ages, and the oil filter although reasonably new, was clogged as well. He's changed everything and now the car goes like a bomb. Had been a littled sluggish. How annoying is that?

Update on the Maverick......

The car has been at the dealers for 20 days now and nothing has happened. They say it is a fuel pump so sent it to a diesel "specialist" as they felt this was the best option. Well how wrong was that!!! The dealer has collected the car back today as nothing had been done apart from the "specialist" burning out the starter motor. The work is now being carried out by the service manager personally as he admits it has been a complete **** up. After a call to Ford Motor Co customer service by myself the dealer called to say he had a courtesy car for us which was on my drive within the hour.As Bina has been in a rental @ 25.50 per day for 20 days at least thats a bit of good news.We have been told to insure the car for 2 weeks so still not sure what they are doing.

I've lost count of how many times I've been told someone will call me back and they haven't and all of this from a company in the same group that I work for.

Brian.

I have bad experiences with Ford Dealers. Ours has been 5 names over the years, but keep the same staff - thus continuous bad service. I also called Ford Head Office recently regarding the availability of parts (our ignition had to come from Japan - 5 days!). - Ford = Rubbish in my opinion.

You want us to come round and sort the dealership out, Brian?

A little roughing up will do the trick, we could start with a few verbals over a freshly erected windbreak. Then go on to playing a little footy in the carpark (kids most definately invited) to see if that gets them moving. If not, I'm quite prepared to walk my dog and let it bark at people passing by but I would imagine the dealership would have folded by then. If all this fails, as a last resort, an open invite to next years PC&PM rally, will have them on their knees, but lets hope it doesn't get that far, for all our sakes.

Last time it went in the car came back and with in a hour a light came on in the car that told use that we had to get it to a deal so they cud sort it out. When it came to it they said that some thick had come a part on it's owe.
