SIM card options

Hi all we got our very first caravan a few weeks ago and used my phone to hotspot to the Avtex tv. This worked well but isn’t a long term solution. I have a router and so looking for a sim to get WiFi/mifi. What I don’t want is any form of contract unless it’s adhoc I know you can have 30 day rolling etc and cancel anytime but it’s a faf and generally you need to activate it in a phone.
I’ve thought of pre loaded 12 months etc with 120gb is about £48 from Amazon on EE.
What’s your advice experience thanks

We have used 3 SIM for years previously in a TP link. But since doing away with landline at home 5 years ago,we now have a 3 Hub,which when away in Caravan ,unplug at home and take it with us, so when away we get exactly the same use as when at home which is unlimited, at no extra cost.

Some people living in their caravans full times use starlink and seem quite happy with it. Personally I have a Falcon wifi router , which has large external aerials for good reception and it sticks to the outside of the caravan , and the 12V power lead can go into the caravan, I have a 12V cigar socket fitted on the outside. The thing I can't get my head around is that various suppliers offer a 'non contract, pay as you go data only SIM' so I signed up with SMARTY at £5/month , but even with the router switched off ( so no data usage) I was charged £5 each month until I cancelled the direct debit. So if anyone knows of a true pay as you go non-contract SIM then please let me know.

@IanB1485 3 do a 24 month fixture price sim, you could if you wanted use it all in one day or it will sit there for three months or more maintaining what data is on it, I normally buy two or three at a time, the cards will sit there in a drawer not loosing data until you start using it then you have 24 months to use the data

Smarty! If you set it up not to auto renew doesn't charge for months not used/needed.
My smarty SIM has been dormant since October next month I will get a month of data as I need it for Ireland. I will only have paid for the one month.
This is on a voice/data Sim in the 7 years I've been using Smarty I've never bothered with a data only SIM and I only ever use it for data.
If you want true PAYG with payment per mb/minute/text then GiffGaff but the coverage is not as good.

I had fun trying to leave Smarty.

They operate only on line and if you need further help it's a Chatbot, which is useless but you can convince it to get a human to chat with.

I requested a PAC code but the process asked to confirm my date of birth. Which I duly entered which then failed verification. So no PAC code.

Recalling that when I joined Smarty it never asked for my DOB, I wondered how it was going to check something that didn't exist.

I couldn't convince the human operator that I was never asked for my DOB, nor can you see it in your account details.

The only way to leave them was to send proof of my DOB. I had to scan in my driving licence and send it to them. Once they entered it I could then leave.

On line security is getting so restrictive these days. Bring back pen and paper.

There are many unlimited data mobile contracts these days. I'm a "BT migrated to EE" user for both mobile and broadband. Two sim-only phone contracts unlimited data at £11.50 each...

I live in an American 5th wheel and use starlink tbh it’s very good never had any connection problems. I’m looking at pre loaded sims which might be an option and are available on Amazon

I use pre loaded Sims from Scancom for both my home internet and caravan.
Buying at the right time is paramount.
I got 500gb / month from last July until November 2027 for £65 so that's just under £2.50 a month.
500gb is just enough for home use and if I run low I can use the caravan SIM.

This is the best 500gb deal at present
And
This is the best if you only need 80gb a month.
Prices are total and not monthly.
Remember these are monthly data and not data to be used over 24 months so represent much better value than the normal pre paid sums.

It says business use but I've got four Sims running for various things and have had 3 others before those so I just ignore that.

I've just bought Scancom Sims through Amazon
Never been asked if I was a business (I'm not, I'm retired).
First one I bought was almost 3 years ago, I now have 2x 500gb 1x 80gb and 1x 3gb.
Probably didn't need the second 500gb but wasn't sure what my monthly usage was and at £2.50 a month 😉
