Sites in Wales

We are hoping to travel to Wales for our main holiday this year. There will be just the 2 of us. Can anyone recommend a site with a nice view, good facilities and within walking or a short car drive distance to places of interest. Never been to Wales but have always wanted to so this is my chance.

many thanks

Sylvia,

Tredegar House CC site is set just outside Newport but is only a short drive (or No. 30 bus) to Cardiff.

If it is beaches you want Freshwater East CC site is set just behind a wonderful beach. It's about a 20 min drive to Tenby. Pembrey CC is set in a country park and has a nice 20 min walk to the beach. Gowerton is on the Gower and close to some of the best beaches in Wales and only a short drive to Swansea.

If it's countryside you are after then Brynich or the Orchards near Brecon have some stunning Black Mountain views and are a short drive into the town of Brecon.

Wales is a big country. Both north and south east are not as scenic and rural as the west.

For me the North would be my choice, but I'm biased as I live here!

Both are well worth a visit and there is plenty to do even in the unlikely event of rain. I would bring a mac just on the off chance though !

If you go to North wales there,s a cs called Ullescroft in the big sites book under Rhyl. Or if you don,t need toilets etc. just hook up then theres a cl (caravan club) called Tan y bryn farm site. Nothing there but peace nd quiet just like I like it to be. Both in Rhyl area. If you like big noise sites with lots on them try Park resorts site Twy Mawr in Townyn. Also in big sies book or google Park Resorts.

Sylvia - unfortunately you have been rather vague in your opening posting. You do not say where your preference lies - north, south, east or west Wales. Again depending on your ages and ability are you looking for an activities type of holiday or a quiet relaxing break.

I would not recommend any site east of Swansea regarding south Wales as it is very industrialised. Pembrey is a beautiful natural country park right on the beach and with fantastic cycle rides. Very little to do in wet weather though. It is also central for both Tenby in the west or Swansea or Cardiff in the east. There is some beautiful countryside locally with many old castles, etc. in the vicinity.

Sorry I cannot speak for north or mid Wales but I am sure there are also many sites of note in these areas which could satisfy your expectations. Wherever you should go have a good holiday and enjoy the beauties of Wales.

In North Wales we have stayed at C & CC site at Bala, and Bryn Gloch near Caernarvon (close to Snowdon, lovely views, very clean). We would go to either of these sites again.

Try North Wales especially Anglesey. Two CC Sites there (One with facilities and one without) and plenty of CL's. Great beaches, good coastal walks and many attractions for children. Cross the Menai Bridge and you have all Snowdonia to discover and of course, the Llyn Peninsular. A55 provides easy and pleasant towing.

Sylvia, as someone who moved to West Wales 5 years ago, it's not until you go to Wales you realsie how big and how rural it is.

As has been pointed out, really you need to have an idea of what sort of area - or at least scenary/activities - you are after. Here in Pembrokeshire it is rugged and rural with a fantastic coastline and beaches, but little or no large shopping centres.

So give a little thought to what it is your after and I'm sure we can help you in yor search.

Sylvia, If u are a cc member can I put in a word for Shawsmead. a nice comfortable well run site. You will be close to Newquay which has a nice seaside and boaty ambiance and Cardigan bay with pretty Aberaeron nearby which always reminds me of Ballamory...

If you are a C&CC club member just look at your magazine this month pages 35/36 which is entitled "Dolphins & Wales" to give you a flavour. This also mentions Aberystwyth a nice family resort just up the coast where you can also ride the devils railway...

Enjoy wherever you go but as someone already said take your mac!

Riverside Caravan Park at Betws y Coed has all you are asking.Walking distance to lovely village and shops great pubs good food and trains.
