Looking for recommendations for a site near Carlisle to spend 2/3 nights next mid-week. Looking for electric hook up, decent sized pitch, clean toilet block. Prefer smallish quiet site, not bothered about entetainment although a pub or similar serving food close by would be good. Would like it fairly close to Carlisle so that we can spend a day there. Only myself and wife, no kids going.
I've had a look on ukcampsite and the Dandy Dinmont site gets some good reviews. Anyone been there or any other suggestions?
Thanks
Robert

Hi Rob
Irton House Farm at the top of Bassenthwaite Lake is a real gem! It's about a 30 minute drive (if that) to Carlisle, but the uninterupted views from the site down Bassenthwaite Lake towards Keswick and surrounding fells are magnificent. There are two shower/toilets which are kept very clean, and there is a snooker table and a table tennis table in a barn if you fancy a go. Reg and Joan, the owners are most welcoming and friendly (he will even offer to take you round the fields in his buggy to show off his prize sheep which he is really proud of). There are pubs close by which serve good meals. We've been several times and just love the site!

Hi Rob
DD is a nice site and pleasent helpful owners, it has Asda about a mile or so away and a Caravan dealer about 1/2 a mile down the road, Carlisle is about 3 mile. However, the nearest pub (Coach & Horses), is about a mile away on the outskirts of Carlisle (Opposite the industrial estate). If you need any further info, just ask.

Phil, what's the approach road to the site like for towing? I had a quick look on google road view and the final stretch looked a bit on the narrow side.

Thank you to all who took the time to reply.

Rob, It`s a doddle, from Junc 44, along the A7 for about a mile, right fork and then turn right after about 100yards, sites on your right in about 20 yards. As a say, no problem at all.
