Sites near Sidmouth

We fancy visiting Sidmouth when the Folk Festival is on. The CC site as out of town meaning car trips all the time.

Looked at site at Salcombe Regis on the www.

Anybody advise of good sites that that are close to Sidmouth.

Oakdown near Weston looks ok but again its a car trip all the time.

An alternative would be one near Lyme Regis meaning car into Sidmouth but hopefully walk into Lyme Regis

Thanks

Hi Mike.

We went about 5 years ago and stayed at Kingsdown Tail(??) can't quite remember sorry. We booked late and this was all that was available, however we found it to be a great site. Back then there was a coach laid on to take you into and back from town,

Hi. I know this area well as I lived from 0-17 there. Unfortunately there are no caravan sites within walking distance. There are several on the Seaton road including the ones you have mentioned. Oakdown is undoubtably the best and the most expensive. I personally dont rate Kingsdown but it is ok as a last resort. Both suffer from a bit of road noise if pitched in the wrong areas. Personally I would go for the site at Salcombe Regis which is away from the road.

Hi Mike, we've stayed at the CC site on the outskirts. I know its on the outskirts but it was a nice site and approx 5- 10 mins away in a car.

A good pub just a short walk up the road well known for the carvery, cant recall its name.

hi mike,

can thoroughly recommend Oakdown, we stay there every August Bank Hols. Your right tho, it is a short car trip to Sidmouth, however, the Donkey Sanctuary is right next door if you fancy a nice walk around, and its pretty much central for Lyme Regis, Beer, etc

I have to agree with Brum, Ladram Bay is a lovely place (assuming you don't want too much to do on site).

I've never stayed there but did work there for a few seasons - Sidmouth's not too far and a nice walk along the cliff path.

If you like to spend time on the beach, though, Ladram Bay is shingle (like Sidmouth) but Exmouth has a nice sandy beach - although, if you prefer swimming, then Budleigh's your best choice!
