Skoda Octavia vRS 170 TDi Estate

Hi All.

We are currently considering changing our Astra 150 CDTi SRi Estate for a Skoda Octavia vRS 170 TDi Estate.

Does anyone tow with one of these? Or indeed and VAG Group car with the 170 bhp TDi unit?

Our van weighs in at 1184Kg all up so weights housldn't be an issue.

Hi Fab, not a complete reply to the 170 bhp but we have the 140 bhp dsg which has no problem with 1350klg pulling at the legal speeds, so unless it was for more sparkling performance solo i wonder why you are going for it. Of course it is a real "mover"the 170.

There has been some discussion on the Eriba Forum with people comparing notes after towing either an Eriba Triton (MTPLM of 1200 kg) or an Eriba Troll (MTPLM of 1200 or 1300 kg) with either an Audi A4 140 ps or 170 ps, or the VW 140 ps or 170 ps versions. And I can't believe that the Skoda version would be any different

Most people prefer the 170 for solo driving, but for towing some people felt the 170 engine was a bit more "peaky" - but everyone liked their cars.

Except for one of the other forum admin guys (Eriba Troll tugger) who has just bought a new A4 Avant 170 ps - and destroyed a 17" wheel and tyre inside 50 miles of ownership (hit an iron bar on the motorway) and the ultra-low profile tyres didn't ride over the bar.

To be honest, I found the 140 bhp a bit tame compared to my Astra.

Love the look of the RS too! Vanity vanity!

Hi Fab,

I tow with a VW Passat 2.0 TDI 170bhp, with DSG gearbox. It is a great tow car, and the engine is very eager.

I went for the VW over the Skoda as the latter one has a limited towing weight, so watch out for that.

It might be worth a look at the Briskoda forum (http://www.briskoda.net) where you should be able to get plenty of help and information on the VRS.

A couple of months ago, a forum member posted step-by-step photographs of when he fitted a towbar to his new Octavia VRS.

Hi. Thanks I have been on the Briskoda site (Marcus100). We have ordered our vRS for Sept 1st. It will be fitted with a westfalia fixed swan necked bracket with twin electrics. Can't wait!
