Sky + box

Just ebay'd a Sky + box to replace the blown Panasonic.Anybody know if you can use the extra features (record/planner)after changing the lnb to quad and running another feed?Do you have to contact Sky to have the card married to the new box?.The card only de-scrambles channel 4/5 etc no Sky premium packages.(freesat from Sky).

Any help appreaciated.

Roy

Hi Roy,

Yes you should be able to access the Sky+ features if you change your LNB and run double cable. You will have to obtain a card from Sky which means paying a Sky+ subscription, this also depends on wether or not you subscribe to Sky at present, your card when you receive it will be dedicated to the one box and will not work in another box. One other thing, if you bought a used Sky+ box on Ebay you will not know how old it is, you could have one with old software version, not all software can be updated to the latest version.Good luck JTS.

Its the 80gig thompson box with new epg (so the advert says)picking it up from the sellers house today as its close enough and he wanted

Interesting discussion and one I'm interested in. Are you sure you have got your facts right?

I have a Freesat card for the caravan and a Sky+ subscription for home. We "used" to have to pay a

Legsmaniac,

to receive sky+/hd you must have a compatable card which is dedicated to the box you intend to use it in, a normal Freesat from Sky will not support Sky+. The only way to get this card is to phone Sky and ask them to configure your box and send you a card - you will then be charged. If after your contract time you cancel your subscription you will have still have a compatable card which will become Freesat from Sky. Your Sky+ box should work but your programmes will be limited to what you can receive on Freesat from Sky.Good luck JTS.

My experience is that you can use your home Sky card in a different digibox.

I have the latest design standard Sky digibox at home and an older Grundig box for the caravan. I have never contacted Sky to register the card with either of the boxes. Both work fine and receive all of the channels that I subscribe to.

Matin,

I am surprised, you are the first one I have heard of that can use their card in different boxes. I suspect your box was set up by a visiting engineer, you will tell us if that is not the case. There may be others that can also use their card in two boxes. We are talking about SKY+ as per the post, are you.Good luck JTS.

Sorry, I did mean Martin.JTS.

Thanks for the info, JTS. Think I'll stick with Freesat for now.

My experience is that you can use your Sky card in different digiboxes too, as long as you don't subscribe to Premium Services.

It's only if you subscribe to premium services (Movies or Sports) that the card is locked to one box. Otherwise it works in any box. I know a few friends (motorhomers) who do this with no problems and they say the same thing, that the card works in any box providing it's not subscribed to premium channels.

Ok thanks for all the info.I use the van for work as well as pleasure and the other box's at home (sky multi room ) need to be connected for the family to use whilst im away.

The Sky + facilities will not work without subscribing to sky at present

I have Setanta on the bedroom box so that HRH can go to bed to watch football but I can put it through the 2 lounge Tvs via the RF outlet

By the time it gets to the little lounge TV its done a complete lap of the house plus going upstairs and then down again!!
