We are the first town on the river Thames. 5000 population, 5 miles from Cirencester.

Our little Tesco Express has seen panic buying and nearly all the shelves are bare. Is the snow going to get worse??

Cheers

Something i noticed the other day when i went to our local tyre fitter to have the caravan wheels balanced, they had only couple of customers . Thinking back to several years ago , soon as the bad weather showed the garage use to be inundated with customers.

I watched the Beeb tonight. There will be heavy snow over all the UK, so it must be true if they say so. Looked outside, not a drop. Watched the local forecast and there will be snow on the Highlands, as usual, but over the south of Scotland tomorrow will be a clear sunny day, and NO snow.

But of course, if the south east has it, it must be panic everywhere. Watched one of the Beeb stupid reporters evidently driving on a side road. Well, he did have at least 1 inch of light cover, but it was terrible and totally dangerous according to him. Makes you wonder how we all coped in days gone by when the snow was up to 6 feet deep.

I agree with one of the newspaper commentators. The UK is now a country of bedwetters.

Not wanting to get any bad feeling going but i think the media loves to hype up the public always saying how Bad things are going to be and because we all watch the same news over and over we then really believe its true !!!How do other countries that are affected by the weather more than we cope?we must be a laughing stock of Europe!!!.I reckon the worse the winter the better the summer.Kev.

Kev - I think you're right about the media hyping up bad news. Wouldn't it be nice if all the news (for say a month) HAD to be positive, ie mortgage rates have just fallen again, prices in the shops have never been discounted so much, petrol prices fall again, lots of people have more leisure time than ever before (instead of unemployment figures, of course), house prices are becoming more affordable every day, and so on, and so on. I bet at the end of a month we'd all be smiling, thinking 'recession, what recession' and all feeling how good life was!!

There used to be Iraq

or Afganistan

or Obama

Zimbabwe

or Global warming

or greenhouse gases

Now we have Pennine way closed for snow

World shortage of Rock salt

London expecting a heavy frost again.

Did I hear that the Scottish assembly spend a few bob? nah must be dreaming that might be real news.

Actually I see now that's why Mr Salmond whisked his spending plans through, he thought everyone in London was too busy scraping deep frost off their Chelsea Tractors and concerned about supplies of de icer and wouldn't notice. Canny geezer. :0)

Val A,love ya way of thinking we think like that most of the time.Where's the good old British fighting spirit!!.Life is all about ups & downs. While we should all enjoy the ups we should learn from the downs and fight our way out of it.So come on it will soon be the spring & then the summer & caravan & camping time.Loads of Long warm summer days.Be happy.

What we don't seem to understand is that London and the South East have about 10 million people, and they are responsible for a huge portion our the countries GDP. The news will be concentrated on this area because of its size and importance.

Boris said the other night of course we could cope if we spent the money that Moscow have spent, but they get this every year we get it every 15 (approx). So the Good news is WE could cope if we threw cash at it, but we don't want to. So we need to stop kicking ourselves and just get on with what we have got.

I have not seen any panic buying in the North of Scotland

9 years ago the borders and south west scotland was cut off for a week-10 days depending on the area I recall it being on local news as they were airlifting supplies in to villages but the national news I can't remember it being on for the same time scale

We take after our mothers, both kept weeks and weeks supplies of food.

I think we could last for at least 6 weeks without worrying about supplies. We also have a generator, if the power goes down we can keep the heating pump running and the fridge and freezers.
