Speed limits in Switzerland

Built up areas 50 kph, open road solo 80 kph, open road towing 60 kph, motorways 100-120 kph, motorways towing 80 kph, motorways minimum speed 60 kph.

Hi Lutz, took this straight out of the Caravan Club Europe 2005 book. In the Caravan Club Holiday Guide it gives the outside built up area towing speed as 80 kph. There appears to be a printing error in the European Guide which I think has been there for some time now. I shall have to notify the Caravan Club!!!

Heaven forbid if the speed limit were only 60kph. If that were the case every other road user would curse each and every caravanner for holding up the traffic flow. A few countries have limits of 70kph when towing (Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Turkey) but 80kph is the norm.

Here is the response from the Caravan Club:

'Good afternoon

Your email of 22 July has been passed to me - apologies for the delay in replying. The following is the exact wording about speed limits in the touring information supplied to us by the TCS motoring organisation in Switzerland.

Speed limit for:

"Light motor vehicle (up to 3,500 kg) with trailer with total laden weight exceeding 1,000 kg* - 60 km/h on normal rd."

A normal road is one that is not a motorway or semi-motorway.

*For trailer with total laden weight not exceeding 1,000 kg the speed limit is 80 km/h.

I hope this is helpful.

I've found following information from the TCS website which confirms 80km/h outside built-up areas, too:
