I'm a relative newbie here, but I've observed this pedantic correction of English usage going on in many forums.

It usually doesn't go on for long, for all the reasons stated in this thread.

There are a number of commonly repeated mistakes in English usage which, personally, jar with my understanding of English, but I know that if I were rude enough to make a comment, I would soon be hoist by my own petard!! 't would serve me right!!

As long as the posting is capable of being understood correctly by the majority, then let it be. I can guarantee that someone will misunderstand, however brilliantly it's written!!

Happy new Year to All.

I have just realised that my grammer is dead - we buried here in Cadoxton Chuch Cemetry, Neath in 1972. My paternal grammer died in 1939. With this in mind I now have no problems.
