ssangyong rexton

I had a test drive a few years ago and whilst I didnt tow with it felt sure it would be fine and there was a lot of car for the money. However it was my first experiance of driving a 4X4 and almost put me off, the solo drive and cornering was awful. If you can live with that, the dealer I visited is in Nantwich Cheshire and could not have been more helpful and even offered us a car with towbar to take the van away for a weekend.

Ken if you look back to either page 6 or 7 of this section I made a similar request for information on this car as a firm were advertising in the Daily Telegraph brand new unregistered cars for under
 
Ken - I have today received the monthly C&CC magazine and there is a small right up in there on this car and it does not give good reading as a tow car - to quote "it did not inspire confidence when towing". Conclusion was "Big, heavy and good value, but there are plenty of better cars to tow with". The overall verdict was 2* out of a possible 5*
 
I have the Kyron the sister to the Rexton and I think the Kyron is a good towcar for our 1465kg Challenger. We also carry 2 bikes on the towbar on a witter extension. The Kyron has a 140kg ball weight.

It aint the fastest but tows cleanly from start and the auto drops into 5th at about 50mph.

Towing mpg is 26mpg average, our lowest was towing at 70mph in France from Clermont to Paris 22mpg and best 29mpg on a more slower tug up the A1

Without the van its about 32mpg,we dont really drive for economy so I dont know if this could be bettered.

Reliability has been excellent and the dealer efficient at service time. It aint the fastest, best handling 4x4 but its quiet and comfortable and compared to others cheap to buy.
 
We tow our Coachman Amara560/6 with a Rexton. I don't know what planet some testers are on but it's miles better than our previous shogun and TD5 Disco! There is NO wobbles or movement that is perceptable on slowing down!!Okay so it's not the newest technology out there but a few kia owners have asked what we are towing with as they couldn't keep up, especially on long inclines. I would say buy used though, 3 year old examples with low mileage are less than 8K, what a lot of car you are getting for that.
 
simon did you not think the kyron was the ugliest car you had ever seen how can you live with those hideous looks a smart car attacked by a group of monkeys would look better
 
An 'ugly' car doesn't, by definition, automatically make it a bad towcar. Besides, everybody has their own ideas on what is ugly or not. To me, the Chrysler 300C is pretty ugly, but I know some people think exactly the opposite.

I've seen quite a few in Ireland when visiting and they don't seem to age well, not know for being to reliable either.
 
the newer 2.7 Rexton is the same engine and gearbox as the Mercedes ML 5 ,but personally i wouldnt buy one because the exhaust emissions are too high which =

I have not been on for a while as we have been to Spain and back on hols with our ever reliable and dependable comfortable climate controlled Kyron.

Ours is black with blacked out side and rear windows and no bull we are asked quite a bit about our great looking 4X4 car, no kidding this trip was asked at ferry, Capbreton and Noja.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it worries me that our car may become popular and we wont stand out from the crowd so much !!....and become more expensive, long live the Kyron !
 
simon no chance of the kyron becoming popular, not many people would walk past the 30+ better 4x4 that cost the same price and look better
 
Caravanner, each to their own, we all have our opinion thank god in a free country,and I put in previous threads it aint the best handling or the fastest 4x4 but it is a good towcar for our big Challenger van, and my family and I like it.

May we (graciously) agree to differ.
 
I have to agree with Simon F, it would be a boring old world if the only towcar available was a Sorento. Each to their own, one man meat is another mans poison. Having to pay

When the vehicles are tested for the Towcar awards, they are driven to the extreme, and swerves etc are carried out, which one would hope that no-one would ever experience. This sorts the wheat out from the chaff so to speak. I'm afraid that in this years tests, none of the Ssang-Yongs performed well at that. They're not the only ones which didn't perform well.

The testers are all VERY experienced at towing (indeed I have been towing caravans ever since I passed my test in the 1970's).

Personally I wouldn't have a Ssang-Yong, Kia Sorento, Santa Fe because I'm not keen on any of the styling, but that doesn't necessarily make them bad.

In most instances it's what someone's pocket will stand, and if a vehicle suits them and their purpose, then good luck to them.

The one vehicle that I have towed with (including the 150 or so used for the Towcar awards) that has stood head and shoulders above ALL the others in the Range Rover TDV8, but alas the
