The best description I have heard to describe (badly played) bagpipes, is "Agony Bags"
Having said that we once heard last minute musical practice for a wedding at Orleans Cathedral, there were just 2 instruments being played, bagpipes and a Piccolo, It's a combination I would never have thought of, but we sat listening in utter delight, it was a simply magical experience.
Where I live there is a sea wall about a mile long with just a bird reserve and a road behind it. For many years there was a chap who would go half way along the wall to practice playing his bagpipes! He was pretty good too.

Joking apart I like bagpipe music, and when we visit Scotland we try and visit local shows/games etc to hear the pipe bands. I’ve several nice CDs too, but only for when I’m driving alone or on my own. For our daughter's first wedding we had a retired Argyle and Sutherland pipe major in full Highland military dress.. Magical.
