Stop over on route to vendee

Hi all,

Counting the days to our summer vacation five weeks in the vendee. We are traveling via Calais to La Rochelle. Can any body recommend a half way stop over? Not to fussed about where just close to the main N138 road. Would even consider a caravan freindly Novotel.

Thanks In advance

Loftyboy

certainly can my friend , we stopped at camping Haliotis , Pontorson , a few miles from Mont St Michel , Normandy / Brittany border.we did the same route as you & its easily drivable Calais to there in a day even without the peage. Not far off the motorway network , roads generally very good apart from the N138round Pont Audemer / Le Havre areas which was atad rough ,a few narrow villages etc.Caen was a breeze as was Rouen , all well signed & straight forward.

The site is very good , we stopped on the way home for 2 nights also , loads to do , big pitches , Champion supermarket in walking distance , you can even order bread on site at reception.

hope this helps.

Thanks Jon,

Sounds just the ticket, will look into it... Oh yes how long do you estimate the journey Calais/La Rochelle... the route planner says 7 hours! Is this realistic with a van on tow?

Thanks again Loftyboy

Stayed on this very site myself and found it to be excellent, if I remember the new owner was telling me that he had bought it from the town, it was a municipal site, now it is due to have major improvements, eg swimming pool. The site is quite close to the town centre and major routes, we found it by chance and certainly use it again.

very very optimistic , we took 7 hours to get to Haliotis from Calais and its a good 4 hours + from there to la Rochelle id say.this was with caravan and not using pay roads ( cos im tight )
