The Jag has to go!!

The forthcoming acquisition of 2 puppies means that the X-Type has to be replaced with a diesel estate car. Our short list (in no particular order) is Ford Mondeo, Mazda 6, Skoda Octavia and Vauxhall Vectra. The car will be about 2 years old.

Views on which would also make the best towcar would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Barry

Had a 155 Mondeo 2.2 TDCI - fantastic tow car, loads of room, loads of grunt. Ignore the ST TDCI - Ford don't recommend towing with it.

How about a Jag X Type Estate Diesel? - not bad cars we have a 2.0D sport as pool car wher I work- and people claim that it is based on the Mondeo Estate

I would go for the Mazda just to be a little different, you see millions of mondeo's/vectra's every day.Or why not a Honda Accord estate that is a fab car.

Hi Barry,

I tow our Compass Rallye (1340kgs) with a 2004 Mazda 6 Sport diesel 5dr - the 134bhp model. It tows really well, gives 30+mpg towing and 45mpg solo. Sport model also has plenty of toys to keep me ammused. It's the first diesel I've had and very impressed. The estate version was voted tow car of the year by the Caravan Club in 2005. Not saying it's necessarilly the best but obviously a worthy contender.

Cheers,

Simon

X-Type estate. It's based on a mondeo so you get the same diesel engines 2.0 or 2.2, the same great handling & still keep the Jaguar ambience & quality. X-type was the 5th most reliable car in a recent What Car survey beating all it's german rivals. Plus the towbar you already have will fit it!!
