Try to book into a couple C.C. sites last week, at the last minute to be told sorry no pitches available, fair enough. Found a site in the area no more than a mile further up the road, had to pass one of the club sites every day and there appeared to be alot of empty pitches all week.

Another club member was also turned away from the club site for the same reason. He seemed to think there where hardstanding pitches vacant as well after visiting the site. May be we'er missing some finer point?

If pitches are already booked for that night they may wrongly appear to be available - similarly if motorhomes have already occupied a pitch but gone out for the day, the pitch will be empty but not available.

The recent heavy rain has left the ground saturated in many areas - it wouldn't surprise me if few grass pitches were useable - some sites also have problems with flooding on their hardstandings.

CC wardens have to use their judgement, after all they have to repair any damage caused if they allow pitches to be used.

I've been on CC Presthope when the site was closed to new arrivals, booked or not, and some of the hardstandings were under 20cm of water.

Francis,

We were on a C&CC site last week and they were no longer accepting arrivals as the grass was totally waterlogged and would have been ruined by vehicles driving on & off .We were lucky enough that we were able to stop on site in appalling conditions......so don't blame the Clubs.....they are doing their best at the moment.
