I am considering either a Mercedes E270 or a Jaguar Stype for towing a Sterling Emerald van 1205kg anyone had any experience with these cars,mpg solo & towing? also towing capability, before I commit myself

You need to give the year and exact model of the Merc and Jag you are considering.

Also, is 1205 kg the MIRO or MTPLM of your van?
