Andrew, you will probably get a better return if you post this with a separate heading. While were at it though, I don't know the automatic but have heard that it is very good, as quick as the manual and with only a small drop in fuel consumption. The manual takes a little time to loosen up, but the change on our 20,000 mile example is just fine now.

Hi Andrew,

I have the 2.5XS manual,a great vehicle after driving and owning many other 4 x 4s. The torque is superb and the manual box is one of the smoothest I have ever used. MPG 37-8 on mixed and 46-47 motorway, this is for solo figures.A friend has the 2.5XS auto fitted with the triptronic version and when out with him reacently I was very impressed, very responsive, smooth and did not go looking for gears. The latest Kia info shows no difference to the manual version. I just prefere manual boxes as I feel I have more control. As far as the serento go's a great vehicle with a build quality that wiould take on and beat other 4x4s priced far higher.

I would like to know how you get that kind of MPG as it is almost doudle what I get from my 2.5 XS manual transmission.

Just as a point of interest, on a poll conducted by the Sorento UK forum 43% of Sorento owners stated mpg as 28/29 mpg

4.2% claimed over 32mpg.

I have to admit that 46-47 mpg from a car that weighs more than 2000kg is a little too optimistic.

In fact those figures are higher than hybrid cars of the same weight. If this was true then Lexus have wasted their time developing the Hybrid!!

I suspect you are not comparing apples with apples. The 28/29 mpg figure is probably the combined figure from all types of driving, whereas if you just look at moroway driving at a constant speed and no obstructions, then the figures will be significantly higher, as they are for all vehicles. My Volvo S80 petrol will easily do 40 plus mpg on the moroway, but has a combined avergae of 30 mpg.

I am very dissapointed with my fuel consumption. I drove 100 miles up the M1 at a steady 60mph ( using cruise control )

result? 27.6 mpg. Currently having a moan to the dealer.

From what I have seen on other forums I am not the only one recording figures like this.

Apart from that the car is the best tow tug I have ever had.

Hi Steve

I took part in that poll my average is only 23 mpg.

If your a low mileage motorist with a fair bit of towing as I am and not motorway driving on a daily basis, then it does not get much better than this.

I must agree with Sparkes. 47mpg on 2litres to move 2tonnes does not compute. My pal's average mpg on his sorento manual, checked religously for tax purposes is a constant 27.8. Check again, rob!

60mph might not give best aero efficiecy for your sorento.

I've a van that returns 32 at steady 60 and 35-36 at 70mph, with empty roof rack it does 31 at 60 and 35-36 at 70mph!

Hi, i have just towed with my 2.5 XE auto sorento for the first time and i must admit its a fantastic towcar had to keep checking the speedo as it was so effortless, i dont have the tiptronic set up but the auto with O/D and even with the van on the back its changes were smooth and fuel was around 30 mpg, and i've roughly calculated mid 30's when solo all according to how you drive it, and it seems to be getting better with every mile i put on the clock, cracking car for the money.

So it's an Auto Sorento, and you found it economic, nice to drive and had to keep an eye on the speed!

Somebody is going to be upset ;-0

ITS A JOKE :)

You're finding out what some of us know already Aaron. Take a look around the campsites that you visit and you will see the growing numbers of Sorento owners. I just find it a pity that Land Rover doesn't have an equivalent model and can't compete with it in their own backyard; I would love to buy British again.

Called into the Spar shop at Sandy Balls Campsite yesterday after dog walking for a few bits (it lets us believe that for a few mins at least we are on holiday!) and parked next to a Sorrento.

SWMBO said "Ooo! I like that"

So go ahead you have the seal of approval

Incidentally - they have knocked the nice little shop down in the entrance to Sandy Balls - shame that - it had character.

I hope it is not to be replaced with some awful monstrosity of a building.

At least you have labelled it as a joke; it's been hard to tell in the past.

Hi

Yet again,O.K the Sorento was filled to the gunnels yet again and the trip meter was set to zero. Did a run to Llandudno and back.Set the cruise to 65mph and used the M6, M56 and A55. Only had to over ride the cruise 8 times there and 10 coming back(the Sorentos cruise is set by rev's and not speed)Got back and topped up and did the normal calculations and the consumption worked out at 46.2 m.p.g. I will do the same when I know I am doing a mixed M/way, dual carriage way, urban run next week. If you are not heavy on the right foot and work to the vehicles rev's and read the road ahead these kind of MPGs can and are achieved.
