towing compatability

Hi, we have an Audi A4 1.9 TDI SE on an 02 plate and we have bought an ABI Award Nightstar 1999 model. Could anyone tell me if the car is compatable with the caravan.

I think you will find that the Nightstar's weight is to much for your car.

Is it only me, or is there anyone else out there amazed at the number of people who,in certain instances, spend many,many thousands of pounds and THEN try to find out if they can tow their purchase???

Hi, the caravan company said it would tow it. It is only now another caravanner has sown a seed of doubt in our minds. If there had been any doubt beforehand we would not have bought it.

If you car is the model with MPTL of 1500kg and your caravan is 1600kg then no your car is not compatable with the caravan unfortunately the site i use for weights didnt have your caravan.

I`d be contacting my local trading standards office. They tend to be very helpful and can advise on action to take.

I would be looking to get my money back, as if the dealer was aware of what you were towing with and insisted you were OK he has effectively sold you something which is not fit for purpose.

Trading standards (at least locally) used to even supply the `form of words` you would need to commence action, and the knowledge that trading standards are aware can sometimes `facilitate` a satisactory result.

My data tells me that the maximum permissible towload of the Audi 1.9TDI is 1500kg and the maximum laden weight of the ABI Nightstar 1600kg. Even if you make full use of the permissible noseweight, you would not be legal if the caravan were fully laden.
